The Sanitary Commission has issued its proposed annual “benefit” assessments for 2015, and the handful of property owners who are being hit with the charge for that new relief main in Princess Anne along Route 13, already over $35 per front foot, are in for a nasty shock – next year it will be almost $100 per front foot under the Commission's plan.
What a wonderful way to attract business and residents to Somerset County!
There will be a public hearing on the proposed assessments for the so-called bypass line and those for other sewer and water projects on Thursday, December 18 in Princess Anne.

Those of you that don't like this are more than able to get involved and review the budget. Look at what comes in, what it costs to do business, and see if you have a way to do it better for less.
Was everyone charged a front foot assessment for the main, or just those that benefited from it? Front foot is a lousy mechanism to generate revenue. Nobody should pay more simply because they have longer road frontage...it should be an equal amount for everyone or those that use more pay more.

That bypass main was built because the aged system in the older part of Princess Anne was overloaded and had overflows. Since the bypass line benefits many users, they should all pay for it, not just a few property owners.
This week's Crisfield Times has a report on the County ethics problems. Somerset County government definitely has a strong bad odor these days.
