Former Baltimore police detective Joseph Crystal has sued the department, his former supervisor and the police commissioner, accusing them of retaliating against him for being a whistle blower.
Crystal said that after he reported an unjustified 2011 beating of a drug suspect to the Baltimore City State's Attorney's Office, fellow officers began harassing and threatening him in October 2012, with one telling him: "If you're the star witness you may as well just resign," and "You need to watch your back," according to the lawsuit.
Crystal's lawsuit says the harassment got so bad, he found a dead rat on his desk one day and that the department failed to provide backup officers to him in potentially dangerous situations, including the arrest of suspects on drug charges.
In his lawsuit, Crystal said he began working in the department in 2008 and was promoted to detective in 2010. He was working in the Violent Crime Impact Section on Baltimore's east side when he said he witnessed a beating by fellow officers of a drug suspect named Antoine Green.

And all you cops are so innocent! You have the same code as thugs do! Silence! Smdh! Pathetic excuses for men and women ! For the few good cops like this detective... Good jobs. You few are our only chance at helping relations between the police and the community! Now please all you cop lovers on here say this isn't a pandemic in police agencies not just here but everywhere!
It's in our own back yard, duncan retailliate a against anyone who speaks out against her or her administration, disciplining officers by means of trumped up and even false allegations which she then has her administration substantiate. She protects the liars and do nothing's as long as they side with her.
The sad part is this story is true. That is why people on the shore should be grateful. I guess if you keep calling a kid a bastard he will become one. Same for the Cops. Keep telling them they are bad your worst fears will come true. People on the shore have it good.
the honest kop is outed by his agency! imagine that!
Ok, What is smdh? I agree that cops and criminals have to have one thing in common; a criminal mind. It's the only way to not only survive, but excel in the job, whichever side you are on.
But, after taking that oath, you chose a path that prohibits corruption and graft. It's supposed to separate you from the other side.
Unfortunately, for some, the "brotherhood" becomes a crime den instead of a badge of honor.

SMDH is an acronym for shaking my darn head.
Thank you, 759! I've seen it b4, but was perplexed!
I don't mind if a cop knocks the crap out of a drug dealer.
