Why not? It's not like it's there money they are spending, they feel the taxpayers have too much disposable income so they want it! As 'Gruber' said the average taxpayer is stupid! ,
Here comes your new rain tax, folks! By the way, as you already know, you already pay a certain percentage toward building and maintaining stormwater ponds, tax ditches, pipes, catch basins and the like, right? So does everyone in Wicomico county, but because of the City Piggyback tax, City residents pay a little more. I mean, all these catch basins and stormwater piping and ditches didn't just show up here by themselves, did they? Would you like to hear some really cool facts about what exactly that money you cough up every year is spent on? Well, here goes!
The City has an operating budget of just over 53 million dollars, but only budgeted $20,000 for storm drain repair, and another $10,000 for citywide inlet hoods in the 2013-2014 budget and absolutely nothing in this 2014-2015 budget.
Wicomico county has put absolutely zero dollars in the last three years' budgets, and a whopping $1,561 in capital outlay back in the 2011-2012 budget.
Now since neither the City nor the county show any budgets prior to the ones mentioned, due to transparency I expect, it's impossible to tell how much was in the budgets for past years like 1984 or 1972, but from the looks of all the infrastructure and upgrades around here, I'm dang sure it's been more than a paltry $30k a year!
Oh, we're all still paying the assessed tax, it's just being spent on pretty things like pictures of bicycles on the pavement @ $300 a pop, bike racks and of course bikes to decorate them with. Meanwhile, as the City Fathers and Mothers cry of poverty and the Big Mean EPA, they are telling us peons that we now will have to pay a separate billing for the stuff we just got charged for and paid with our Property taxes!
The meeting to shove this up our collective arses is this coming Monday evening at 6:00 pm at the GOB room 301. Come to cheer them on so we'll have yet another thing to be thankful for this Thursday on Thanksgiving Day.
