On November 29th, Small Business Saturday will celebrate its fifth year in kicking off the holiday season for small, independent businesses. Held each year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, Small Business Saturday is a day for communities to come together in support of the businesses that keep their neighborhoods thriving. In fact, the main reason why two-thirds of consumers patronize small businesses is because they value the contributions they make to their community – according to the just-released Small Business Saturday Insights Survey from the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) and American Express.
Since its creation in 2010, Small Business Saturday has grown tremendously. This year, nearly 3,000 neighborhoods from every state and the District of Columbia have signed on to host events and in-store promotions for shoppers. In addition, a number of new initiatives are making it easier than ever for consumers to patronize small businesses.
