Debt Collectors' Lucrative New Tool: Suing You

Debt collectors are well-known for annoying and harassing phone calls. But it gets worse, says the Huffington Post. The industry is employing a troubling new strategy: Filing lawsuits against debtors.

Debt collection companies generally buy debt at a discounted rate and aim to make a profit by collecting more than they paid for the overdue bills. Increasingly the companies are turning to the legal system to ensure their efforts are successful.

Wow. Making people actually PAY for their credit cards, loans, and consumer goods that they THOUGHT they got away with stealing is a "troubling new strategy"?
How about paying for what you buy? Or borrow? Or charge? Or is THAT too troubling? I know lying and stealing isn't frowned upon like it used to be, but it's STILL lying and stealing.
Its hard to put a good spin on stealing, but that doesn't stop many from giving it a shot...
