Salisbury Chamber of Commerce Is Trying To Relocate Alcohol At The Salisbury Festival

With the upcoming Salisbury Festival just weeks away, Mayor Ireton approved relocating the Salisbury Festival to Division & Main Street.

Rather then having a designated area for beer and wine, the Mayor and Chamber wanted to expand it to Main Street and the Liquor Board flat out turned them down. The main reason, (as I understand it) was that they did not bring the proper information to make it happen and with only 5 weeks left there probably isn't enough time for the Board to move forward with changing the location and details.

I can see what they were trying to do and giving the Downtown Plaza that much more attention would be cool. However, the Plaza needs to be gated, (as I suggested in my campaign) so it can in fact be policed. During such events, it should become an adult only environment. I personally do NOT believe the beer and wine should be around the children.

Let me say this as well. The Mayor needs to stop attempting to create his own Parties Downtown. Filing for liquor licenses for open container parties is just ridiculous. There are businesses down there that already have licenses and there is NO REASON the City should be allowed to compete against those establishments. This needs to end, especially on 3rd Fridays.

Kids are around beer and wine all summer at open events all summer all over the shore. You want to ban kids from baseball stadiums too?

Two very good points , government competing with booze , kids around booze.
Of course , I expect nothing less with this city government.

That event has become a blot on Salisbury and Ireton's gambit would make it worse. Next year he will probably want open use of drugs approved too, and that is already happening there.

How much does it cost city taxpayers for overtime of the police and other employees and set up expense?

Proof of the cities disinterest in the best and most progressive moves for it's citizens

Ireton has called a press conference to announce that he is replacing the liquor board with Day, Mitchell and Shanie!

Every festival you go to here is nothing but a drinking fest. This is not the only one. Keep your kids away from all of them?

8:32, I have been to many Salisbury Festivals. Having the beer and wine located where it has been for years separates the adults from the children. I am not against drinking but I cannot see the RISK of one fol making an IRREVERSIBLE mistake in front of a child or children. It simply is NOT worth the risk.

Heck, our very own Mayor has been well know to make very foolish, very irresponsible and immature mistakes IN PUBLIC after slamming too many beers.

It is NOT worth the risk.

I have a good idea, quit having this stupid festival. Went one time, that was enough for us. I don't like to be run into, thrown up on and pushed around but for those of you who do, enjoy.

Wheels that Heal car club that ran the car show was told they had to move to smaller location so there will be no car show this year.

Nothing surprises me with this group. They haven't considered the impact this could or would have on others. I feel sorry for the car club. This was a huge event for them.

Personally these festivals are nothing but an excuse to drink. The shore has an alcohol problem.

Car show was brought me to the event. Will have no problem finding something else to do. Too bad!
