Shipping Problems Prevent Some Gifts From Making It Under The Tree In Time

UPS may not be getting any Christmas cards from some customers. For the first time, the world’s largest package delivery service says they were swamped by overwhelming demand.

FedEx also had some delays getting gifts under the tree in time.

Meghan McCorkell has more from frustrated customers.

Neither FedEx nor UPS will say how many packages are delayed, but the problem has been reported across the country.

I think it's awesome what they do even in this season. Being backed up this time of year with the combination of the weather and Christmas is no surprise to me.

Merry Christmas and God bless all the workers in this business this time of year!

I had a new cell phone being delivered "overnight" by the Postal Service that took 4 days to get here. Funny how they only mention UPS & FedEx. We ordered a phone accessory from Amazon two weeks ago that still has not arrived.

You pay extra money to have something sent quicker, but they certainly don't refund your shipping fee when they don't get it delivered on time.

As I headed to an early Christmas Eve mass at 6:00p.m. who do you think was stilling working? UPS! They are a great company and this is one of the few years I have ever heard any thing negative about them.

I am so sick of hearing people whining about this on the news. Some people even said it ruined their Christmas. If that's the case then they should consider themselves lucky because in the scheme of things this 'problem' is miniscule and others have it far worse.
While I understand people paid extra for pre-Christmas delivery (and are getting refunds), the bottom line is when you yourself aren't in control problems may develop and it's a part of life, and something everyone needs to learn to deal with. The other lesson to be learned is to shop earlier.

There are roughly 365 days in the year. you and millions of others don't have to wait until the last day or two to order and then complain its not here. If not getting a gift under the tree is more important then spending quality time with the family then I truly feel sorry for you.
Just my 2 cents

Some woman was on TV complaining that because her 6yr old didn't give a particular gift on Christmas day due to this that his Christmas was ruined. All I can say is this 'mother' has NO business being one. A real mother teachers her children to 'make lemonade' when things don't go as planned. She was the quintessential example of all that is wrong in this country and should immediately be spay for the good of any future children and the country as a whole!

Shipping companies would go broke if everyone shopped like I do.If I can't walk into a store & buy a product WITH CASH I do without it.

I agree with you, Richard.

I wasn't missing anything from UPS or FED EX as I did my shopping early and local this year. Probably more by luck than design, as I do order from catalogs occasionally.

But I still haven't had Christmas with my family, because I've had the FLU!!! I did have Christmas with Jesus as it was His Birthday. But I'm still hoping for Christmas to happen this weekend with the family.

But I really want to complain about that FLU!!! It could have picked a better time to show up. It did not have to come on Christmas. How inconsiderate!!! It ruined EVERYTHING.

Just kidding, of course. I think that maybe UPS and FED EX got caught in the "lets cut down on employees and make the ones we have work double-time" situation that is going on everywhere. I don't think it was because people ordered so much stuff on-line, rather than shopping at Malls.
I also don't think it should RUIN Christmas. If it does, there is a deeper issue.

Likewise, just my two cents,
Dawn

The fact remains that UPS is just another unethical American business cutting employees in favor of bonuses for top execs. W/o an adequate workforce how in the hell did these 'bonus seeking execs' expect to satisfy their customers? There are no excuses for such actions except greed.

Instead of complaining... A. shop earlier next year. B. try volunteering at a shelter for those who don't have the luxury of paying extra for a gift or even have a place to call home.
Look at the big picture people. Merry CHRISTmas not Merry MEmas. Grow up and enjoy the REAL Reason for the season and the best gift of all.. Jesus born on Christmas Day and Thank the people who fight for the freedom, so we can live in AMERICA!!!!

Yup, just a bunch of cry babies here. You cant do anything about the weather. You people would want these employees to risk their lives so you can have your precious junk on time.

Folks - you all are missing the whole point. The recently installed RED LIGHT CAMERAS ATTRIBUTED TO OUR LOCAL DELAYS!!!!.

One can only turn right for so many turns - but with the addition of speed cameras it has slowed down their production.
