9 Of 12 Md. Pet Stores Failed To Post Puppy Origins

Nine of 12 pet stores visited in September as part of an undercover investigation by the Humane Society of the United States did not comply with a Maryland law that requires them to post on each dog cage every dog's breeding and origins.

The law requires the state in which the breeder or broker is located and the U.S. Department of Agriculture license number of the breeder or broker. Brokers are middlemen who resell to pet stores.

Using that information consumers can find out whether the breeder has a history of animal welfare problems

Yep, not surprised. Dennis (super pet) uses puppy mill dogs and sells them way over priced. People should just watch the paper and get a dog from a breeder where you can go and even pay a reasonable price.

that's because Salisbury Super Pet's animals are puppy mill dogs. They are unhealthy and horribly overpriced and mistreated. What kind of life is that for those innocent puppies to have to live in a small 3x3 cage all day long? I would never work for such a horrendous place.

if the humane society is so concerned about animal welfare maybe they ought to drive around the ghetto a bit and look at all the mistreated pit bulls!
Oh that's right they don't give a rats @ss about that.

8:15-If you see a mistreated animal it is your duty to report it to authorities if you are concerned. It's real simple.
Another thing before you go spouting off about something you are clearly ignorant about, it is the local authorities to keep an eye out for what you mentioned. If dogs are found on a large scale, which may overwhelm local authorities' then the HSUS has resources to help.

8:42 I'll report what I want which is nothing! in the meantime you can be the government snitch! you're just another liberal pablum puking democrat looking for a cause to support. Go over to the humane society and look at those dogs and cats locked up in cages all day. What are you doing about them?
NOTHING! so stfu!

I had wonderful luck purchasing our dog through a site called Greenfield Puppies out of Lancaster PA. The site gets some grief but I suspect it's from those who have never purchased a puppy using the site's service which is just to advertise.
Since we have livestock we are limited to the type of dog we should acquire due to a dogs inherent traits. We needed a dog with a low chase instinct not only because of the livestock but because of deer. Our choices were limited to one of the Live Stock Guardian Breeds such as an Anatolian Shepard or a Great Pyrenees.
The site links you to the breeder and you go directly to their homes to get the puppy. Before hand I Googled the man's name because I could tell it was an Amish name and I had heard the horrors of the Amish puppy mills. I found nothing about the Lapp family other than they manufacture farm animal enclosures.
We traveled to their farm and the puppies were in a fenced in area bigger than a lot of Salisbury backyards with a shed for them to go into and the fence extended into the barn for more cover if they wanted it. It was not a puppy mill and the wife explained to us that this was the first litter of puppies and the last. They bred their dogs so they could keep 2 of these wonderful working dogs and sell the rest.
The puppy was completely housetrained due to living outside his whole life which happened to be 12 weeks. He was had a bit of training from the Lapp boys who when they were out of school had the responsibility of taking care of the pups. He knew to not jump up on people, to sit and lay down and how to walk on a leash. I would recommend Greenfield to anyone looking for a specific breed at a reasonable price and do not be wary if the breeder is Amish. Just do your research before you make the trip to see the puppies.

4:53 Thanks for the information. I will contact the Kennel Club before going further because they really know who is doing right by animals and keep track. Thanks!
