Senior administration officials tell The New York Times that the U.S. is actually considering the idea of a complete withdrawal from Afghanistan before the official 2014 pull out.
The campaign has been fraught with recent disappointment, from the failure of peace talks in Doha, Qatar, and what seems to be a rapidly deteriorating security situation. To make matters worse, the consistent and growing intransigence of Afghan President Hamid Karzai has now led officials to lean on the less popular "zero option" — complete withdrawal.
“There’s always been a zero option, but it was not seen as the main option,” said a senior Western official in Kabul to the Times. “It is now becoming one of them, and if you listen to some people in Washington, it is maybe now being seen as a realistic path.”

The sooner the better, this has got to be one of this countries, no the Earths, stupidest wars in history.
Like Vietnam we've already lost. You can not enter a war without the vision of kicking ass. There were no crybaby politicians in WW1 or WW11. American leadership, both parties have become pansy asses.
There was never any reason for us to go there in the first place. Get out, and also leave Syria to themselves as well. And Libya, Egypt, Pakistan......
1038, read a book. The war in Afghan. is NOTHING like WWI or WWII.
631 agreed, partially. Afghan. was the right war fought with the wrong goal. We should have supported tribal leaders who were with us, fully empowered them to drive out al queda, then let things be. Forget the nation building. Yes, leave the Syrians and the Egyptians to figure things out on their own. Funny that we think we can dictate to these countries how to run their affairs when they have been doing so for thousands of years.
The things people will do when a country possesses a mineral not available anywhere else on Earth.Afghanistan has such a mineral in near endless quantities, but since I am not a conspiracy theorist, maybe Bush actually did think he was hitting terrorism in the solarplexes.
