New this year the Mayor and City Council voted to charge a $50 flat-fee for all day parking in the Inlet Parking Lot on 4th of July. The fee was good for one entry, and allowed visitors to come as early as 5 a.m. and stay as late as midnight, without being charged an hourly parking rate.
The decision received backlash from the public once it was announced on social media days prior to the holiday accusing town officials for voting in favor of the flat-fee simply to increase revenue. However, the town responded the $50 flat-fee was chosen based on convenience.

"Thousands" of visitors...for a parking lot with 1,200 spaces that sounds like a bit of a stretch.
positive??? No way unless you somehow can construe mad as hell people when they saw hundreds of empty parking spaces in the lot or those who sat literally at a complete stand still for 45min-1hr on Baltimore Ave because having the lot closed forced massive amounts of traffic to all head north on Baltimore.
Just ask anyone working downtown how mad people were.
Money's no object to them rich people across the bay.
I'm glad the mayor saw the situation that there were a few hundred spots open on the lot around 8PM while a few hundred cars sat in traffic just around the corner looking for parking. That situation needs to be addressed, as I'm sure it will be.
1. More signs are needed further north on Baltimore to alert drivers of the inlet situation.
2. A special lane set up on Philadelphia Ave. (maybe as far up as Talbot) to allow cars in late. The lane could be opened or closed as parking becomes available, allowing just the number of cars that would fill the spaces. Flat rate - discounted, of course.
There were a few bugs for the new system - but I'm sure it'll be worked out.
The only way it will ever work is to open the lot even just to keep more cars off Baltimore for awhile.
The inlet lot the way it exists now is just a cluster to begin with at busy times due to the holdup waiting to pay. Whomever dreamed that up all I can say is they didn't use their heads.
I don't think it's reasonable (nor did I when this first came up) to assume that everyone (and it now shows with 100's of available parking in the late afternoon/ evening)who parked there at 5:30am were going to stay into the evening for fireworks.
Tell Me something. Why can't the parking spaces be rented in advance like the room rental. If you rent a room you must rent a parking space for the same amount of time.
Got to love mayors spin. He project everything was good and masses buy it they also will continue to pay for his crews big spending and perks. Way to replace traditional tourist with his money bags drunks
Someone told me they heard by early evening there were 400 empty parking spots in the lot.
400 empty spaces is 20k lost. They charge huge price and don't keep lot full for tax payer they say there working hard for. While Mayor shares he watched it all!!! don't figure. Most non-bussiness person to hold Mayor's office ever!
