Medical Marijuana OK'd In Maryland, But Advocates Want More

Maryland liberalized its marijuana laws in this year's General Assembly session, including legalizing medical marijuana, but advocates say lawmakers fell short of the changes they wanted.

Lawmakers approved a bill to allow medical marijuana to be distributed through teaching hospitals attached to universities, where its effects can be studied. The General Assembly also passed a measure that allows caregivers of medical marijuana patients to get off the hook or get a $100 fine if they are arrested for pot possession. Gov. Martin O'Malley is expected to sign both.

Currently, 18 states and the District of Columbia allow the use of medical marijuana. Advocates say they would be hesitant to call Maryland the 19th. Most other jurisdictions allow medical marijuana to be purchased at storefront dispensaries instead of academic medical centers.

They need to outright legalize it. Tobacco is legal, alcohol is legal. At least marijuana is a natural plant, alcohol has to be processed. As long as they only allow it for medical use, they'll never collect a dime in tax money.

I wouldn't count Delaware as one of the eighteen states where medical marijuana is legal either even through it was passed into law at least a year ago. You can't find a doctor who will recommend it yet, and they scrapped plans for the distribution centers because they were afraid of what the federal government would do to the worker's at the distribution centers. At least that is the weak excuse I've been hearing from Delaware as to why it was passed into law and yet nothing changed.

The government does not want to do anything that the public would enjoy. They want us to suffer. And obammy is doing a pretty good job at that so far.

If this law stands as is, Where is the closest academic medical center on the eastern shore? Does this mean I'll have to get high and drive across the bridge to re-up with my approved dealer? As expensive as gas is and my Obama co-pay I'd save money scoring my weed the old fashioned way. Support your local farmer! and God bless the USA and Duncan Doughnuts.

Pot-heads always want more...POT. By the way 5:19 poison ivy is natural too. On the flip side, the war against drugs is a joke with the crooked mega banks getting rich off of the money laundering and the government at all levels putting people in jail for trivial misdemeanors. If a side had to be chosen I would go with pro-legalize side, but not with strong conviction. People have enough drug problems already.
