The self-proclaimed "America's Toughest Sheriff" joined forces this weekend with action movie star Steven Seagal to train volunteer armed posse members to defend Phoenix-area schools against gunmen.
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio announced the controversial plan in the wake of the December Newtown, Conn., school shooting that left 27 people dead, including the gunman and 20 first-graders.
The exercise took place Saturday at a closed school site in suburban Fountain Hills, outside Phoenix, where sheriff's SWAT members acted as shooters and teenagers played the part of students during mock scenarios involving up to three gunmen.

Joe, the NRA offers this training for FREE! Why not take advantage of real teachers, unless Steven is one of those members?
At least they care about our children.

Steven is a member of law enforcement. He can shoot the cotton off of a cotton swab as well as ignite a match stick with his pistol.
Steven is also a master of his particular form of martial arts.
The sheriff is also a member of law enforcement, having been ELECTED numerous times. He has lots of experience and the people who vote him into office seem to be well pleased with him and his results.
Obama does not like him, for reasons we all know. That one fact alone makes me a supporter of the sheriff.
Together they might actually do some good training other people.
Regardless, they are attempting to do SOMETHING. Isn't that better than lip service? Isn't that better than simply criticizing and doing nothing nor offering other solutions?
They have problems and situations unique to that area of this country.
We only have state borders in this area, unless someone wants to invade via the ocean.
I say go for it. If successful, it could be the template for others to follow.
If not, oh well. They tried. Failure is a byproduct of TRYING. If no one tries, they are always 100% successful, but achieve nothing.
9:53, 8:01 here. I stand corrected if what you say is true. Too bad the writer of the article left all that out and just called him an "actor", which greatly diminishes his credentials.
What a rediculous circus.
