SNAP Trafficking: No More Food Stamps For Cash, USDA Says

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is cracking down on food stamp “trafficking” with new rules that make it illegal to indirectly trade food stamps for cash.

The USDA is targeting abuse of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, also known as food stamps, as part of its “campaign to cut waste.”

It’s already illegal to trade food stamps for cash, but the USDA wants to make it harder for people to get around the rules by cashing food stamps indirectly. One common method is what’s called “water dumping,” using SNAP benefits to buy water bottles and other containers that can be returned for refund deposits.

Just because it's now illegal doesn't mean people will stop doing it, or that some smart accountant will find a way around the law.

It's about time they crack down on waste of taxpayers money!!

Millions would be saved for us tax wise if Goverment sends support for only One illegitimate child----Everyone's entitled to 1 mistake----after that---they're on their own to support the droves of children being produced. You'd soon see a stop to all these illigitimate babies being born.

How Stupid is our Government anyway?
Don't Bother to answer---I already Know!!!

You go to a fish market and the owner gives you fifty cents on the dollar for your food stamps and says he sells you fish. How you going to stop that? It happens all the time in the seafood retail market. The government must not have a clue.

"Partly as a result of this aggressive marketing, SNAP participation is up 34 percent since the recession ended."

Really? The recession ended? I hadn't noticed! This must be how true everything else in the article is!

Gosh it's a good thing they are making this illegal. No if they would just make mass shootings in schools illegal that will stop that too.

There must be a bigger picture and a more logical explanation for such giveaways. This simply cannot be exactly as it appears. No one with an ounce of economic wherewithall intentionally runs a ship onto a reef.If the other shoe drops in my lifetime and some sense comes of all this I will be amazed.
