Maryland teachers statewide could be required to pay union fees even if they are not members, according to legislation expected to be introduced this session in Annapolis on behalf of Maryland State Education Association (MSEA).
The “fair share” fee is a top priority of the teachers union that represents about 70,000 people – or 80% of school employees.
According to MSEA, the new fee would be about 68% of current union dues, which vary by county. There are already 10 jurisdictions in the state which require a “fair share” fee, also called an “agency fee.”

Other state employees have been forced to for over a year now.
You are correct and their campaign donations go right into the democrats pockets. FORCING someone to pay to be about worker is an absolute show of fascism.
Revolt!
I thought teachers were supposed to be smart?
30 years of liberal education control has shown us differently.
I hope they wise up soon.
Teachers are smart. It's the liberals in Maryland government that are forcing this issue. If you are a teacher and have a different point of view - tough luck. That is NOT what this country is about.
There are two 'takeaways' from this move, in addition to picking the pockets of non-members.
1) Enough teachers and other 'covered employees' are quitting the union or declining to join that it's become an issue large enough to persuade the legislature to authorize the 'union tax'.
2) 32% of regular union dues go to political action of one sort or another.
This is a golden opportunity for Maryland teachers to rise up and say enough is enough.
The Unions will NOT look out for their best interest. They will only take their money and donate to the Democracy we currently live in.
Let's bring our Republic back.
Teachers are smart? Let's face it, you got what you voted for.
Shows the difference of the "Right to Work" states. The Socialist Republic of Maryland is not one.....maybe the people will wake up and demand it.....but I don't think collectively we're that smart.
