GOVERNOR MARTIN O’MALLEY CONGRATULATES SENATOR MIKULSKI ON APPOINTMENT AS CHAIR OF APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEE

ANNAPOLIS, MD (December 20, 2012) - Governor Martin O’Malley today released the following statement on Senator Barbara Mikulski becoming the first woman to chair the Senate Appropriations Committee:

"Senator Mikulski is the perfect choice to Chair the Senate Appropriations Committee. She is one of the most effective Senators ever to serve in the U.S. Senate Chamber, and we in Maryland know firsthand her commitment to creating jobs, expanding opportunity, protecting the safety and security of Maryland’s families, and protecting our quality of life. There is no one better to continue Senator Inouye’s legacy.

We are very proud that she will be the first woman ever to serve as Chair of this prestigious committee."

The biggest thing that needs to be fixed in MD is the term "We in Maryland". It is used too frequently to mean US when it really means a very an increasingly select group of elected officials.

I am not as optimistic as O'Malley - and I will tell you why.

Senator Mikulski doesn't look very good especially as of lately. If she is not careful - she might find herself in the same predicament as Senator Inouye. Look - the lady is really getting up in age and there is only so much one can do to fight mother nature. She has already had a good run of it - why doesn't she try and finish off the golden years to enjoy a little life.
