Romney, Obama Could Split Popular And Electoral College Vote, Polls Suggest

Most polls at this moment suggest GOP nominee Mitt Romney is in the lead nationally, but surveys in the nine or so swing states are registering a narrow advantage for President Obama.
So here’s a prospect worth contemplating: What if Romney carries the popular vote, but Obama regains the presidency by winning 270 votes or more in the electoral college?
“I think it’s a 50/50 possibility — or more,” said Mark McKinnon, who was a political strategist for former president George W. Bush.
“If the election were held tomorrow, it wouldn’t just be a possibility, it would be actual,” added William A. Galston, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, who also served as a policy adviser to former president Bill Clinton.
That kind of split decision between the electorate and the electoral college would mark the fifth time in American history — and the second time in a dozen years — that the person who occupies the White House was not the one who got the most votes on Election Day.

Maryland is one of the states to blame. If 3 counties vote one way, and ALL the others vote the polar opposite, the 3 take the electoral college to the bank. Totally wrong in my opinion, but my opinion doesn't count, because I do not live in one of those 3 counties! So, The eastern shore can go ahead and vote Gary Johnson because out 3 counties are putting Obama back in anyway!

Um, Gary? Basic math, please. You can't get a split between the Electoral College and the popular vote at the state level. You only get a state's EVs if you win the state's popular vote.

And I don't want to hear a WORD out of the Reactionary Right if this happens. That's how Bush was elected in 2000 and no one on your side of the aisle had a problem with it then.

417-Why shouldn't every vote count? Oh wait, it does.

You vote counts towards the electoral college representative in your state.

Then he casts his vote for who he wants to be president.

806-Every vote counts. Just because you're outnumbered one way or another doesn't mean every vote shouldn't count. Want it different, move somewhere outside the USA.

Why do people like you always have to be a wise ass?

Believe what you want, but when someone wins a popular vote, but the other guy is put into office, who is outnumbered? The one with the most votes, lost.

Why is this even a possibility?
As dismal as EVERY economic statistic is with this Regime it should be a landslide.
Obama should be sliding/slithering out of the White House.
Gezz, he should be IMPEACHED over Libya alone not to mention things like fast and furious, NDAA, Executive orders...
The list goes on.
People in America must be stupid as this presidency will go down as one of the worst in history.

Oh yeah - and I remember how gracious and compromising the fascist left and their media stooges were about following the rule of law. Absolutely repulsive.

What if vice versa? Incumbent leads popular & contender leads electoral?

The electoral votes are not to be changed. If popular vote for a candidate wins, then only the electorate for that candidate votes. They are committed & may not change their vote.
