Marylanders left the state to spend about $1.2 billion at the Hollywood Casino in Charles Town, W.Va., over the past decade, money they could have pumped into the local economy instead, according to a report released Monday by a group that wants to expand casino gambling in Maryland.
The study, conducted by the Sage Policy Group and funded by supporters of gambling expansion, makes an economic case for building a new casino at National Harbor and allowing table games elsewhere in Maryland, something the state's voters would have to approve Nov. 6.
Unless gambling is expanded, said Anirban Basu, Sage Policy Group's chairman and CEO, "Marylanders will spend between $1.1 billion and 1.5 billion in Charles Town over the next decade."

I hate the way they keep trying to "convince" Marylanders that more gambling is the answer.
this is gambling. it is not revenue. this money is coming mostly from people who cannot afford it. oh excuse me it is for the children
Translation: O'Malley's campaign contributors (the ones who say that just because they gave him a million dollars doesn't mean they EXPECT anything in return) are frothing at the mouth at the hundreds of millions of tax dollars that will be funneled to their companies, friends, and families. Propaganda. It has NOTHING to do with "children" or "education" or "jobs". Its ALL about the bottomless pit of gold that can be so easily taken from those who can least afford it.

Don't blame OMalley, he had the loss to MD at 1 Trillion loss, of which two trillion could have gone to the unions workers, I mean to the kids! That would be enough revenue to bring the graduation rate to maybe 55% in Baltimore City, less any testing results, less free points for diversity, less free points for being on taxpayer assistance.

Hey people, remember when the lottery came to most of the states? The pitch was that proceeds would go for school funding. Now in MD, look at the back of your lottery ticket. It says "Maryland Sports Authority". I refuse to play the lottery & build another ball stadium, ball field, ball park, hockey rink, whatever. Now, who really thinks the money will go to schools? If you do, I've got some swampland in Florida & a bridge in Brooklyn, NY for sale.

Look, gambling is a part of some people's lives for entertainment. Just head North to Delaware or OC. Look at all the elderly enjoying themselves. Ya, I don't want to hear they can't afford it. It's their money and they should be able to spend it on what they want.
Md better get with it since it is surrounded by Delaware, PA and WVA. Not only are the millionaires leaving Md to live elsewhere but others are leaving to enjoy some entertainment. Md is missing out.
And, by the way, it wasn't the Governor who wanted this , it was Mike Miller.
