WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- The head of the Democratic Governors Association, Martin O'Malley, said that while tackling economic issues is at the top of the list for Democratic gubernatorial candidates around the country, implementing the Affordable Care Act is also high on the list because it connects to job creation.
At the National Governors Association gathering here on Saturday, O'Malley, governor of Maryland, said that he sees health care reform and job creation going hand-in-hand as health care reform frees up state funds for other purposes. He made the comments after a health committee meeting that centered on controlling the cost of Medicaid.
"As Democrats, we should do a better job of saying that in order to be competitive, we need to stop wasting money on rising, out-of-control costs," O'Malley said.

Creates jobs for IRS goons only, Mr. O'Stupid. This bill that is TRIPLE the cost oBUMBer said it would be, will drive Dr's out, cause extremely poor healthcare, and busineeses will close and drop insurance plans. This man is an idiot!

This is the problem. O'Malley and other Dems need to start DOING, not SAYING. Their doing hasn't helped anything and their saying has nearly destroyed the County we used to know.
I happen to catch a bit of this on CSPAN today. It was some professor giving a kind of Q and A on economic developement. Omally's gets a turn and he starts pontificating on how MD's number 1 in research and development and a bunch of other hot air. The professor (U of CA, Berkeley)more or less told Omally research and developement was BS as far as economic development. The look on Omally's face was to die for. Looked like he had just eaten a hugh pile of manure.
Look at how many companies in Maryland rely on the government contracts. If the government was to downsize this state would be sunk. I guess that is why Omalley wants to keep Obama in office and keep the government growing.
What a couple of clueless idiots. Jobs created, yes, for IRS goons and government "administrators". They are not jobs that generate a tax base! These are jobs that are paid off the backs of those working in manufacturing and other private sector jobs... you know, the ones everyone is getting laid off from.
jobs will be a net loss. doctors and other health professionals are quitting. they can no longer keep their practice because of medicaid and other government regs.
don't let the government fool you regarding this "hell care" bill.
436 you mind citing a reference for the "doctors are quitting over Obamacare" narrative. Seems I recall seeing where we have a doctor shortage due to increased demand at a time when the baby boomers are retiring. This is impacting the medical field just like nearly every other field of skilled labor in the US.
As for the jobs claim, seem "Obamacare" is taking the onus off of many large corporations to provide coverage (cheaper to pay the fine). Which brings down the cost of labor. The increased demand for healthcare should also translate to more opportunities for medical professionals and businesses. And people should be better off without the threat of going into bankruptcy over a catastrophic illness/injury.
doctor's are leaving practice and going in to acadamia because of the new health bill crap. doctor's are not willing to work under all the gov't restraints that will be coming into play. this health care bill will NOT generate new jobs/busisnesses in MD. Have you been paying attention to the businesses leaving MD in the last couple of years? The taxes in MD are the main reason for the mass exodus of businesses. Those with the $$ to move have moved their business, as well as their residence to more business oriented states, who can blame them? If they had employees that were interested in moving with them, then MD is leaving even more taxpayers. Evidently MD will be a ghoststate!!
