New Fiscal Year Means Tax Hikes In Maryland

Maryland residents who earn more than $100,000 annually will pay more income taxes and many will pay higher fees to flush their toilets under new laws taking effect this weekend.

Under the income-tax law, single taxpayers with an adjusted gross income above $100,000 and couples who make more than $150,000 will see their taxes rise from a quarter of a percentage point to half a percentage point. The tax increases will be retroactive to January.

The state's "flush" tax on sewer bills will double from $2.50 a month to $5 a month - or from $30 to $60 annually under a measure aimed at upgrading wastewater treatment facilities to reduce pollution in the Chesapeake Bay. The law exempts people who don't live in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Gov. Martin O'Malley, a Democrat, led the charge to boost the tax.

Let's just flush O'Malley and all the other Democrats with him. All they know is tax and spend.

like a fool you have moved into this, while I'd give anything to get out of Maryland, but it is impossible to move my 400 ac farm and 350,000 chicks.

Did you ever think you would live to see the day when they taxed you to use a crapper that was on it's own independant septic system?

People of Maryland should have taken more notice of what O did to Baltimore while he served there as Mayor and after he turned things over the Schmoke administration. Few remember the very successful crab house venture that the Harrison family built up at the old Omni Hotel on their dock. That business was trashed by mandating that the lease in the Omni be given over to the management of a minority company and that they be permitted to continue using the Harrison family name. Well, it's all history now because it failed.

Now, the Annapolis machine has done a redistricting to further cement their party's stranglehold on its rule by putting control at the hands of selective geographies such as PG county. Maybe the Eastern Shore will shock everyone with a 100% voter turnout to stop this nonsense. Maybe they won't.

Makes no sence. Someone making 100,000 and someone making 80,000 poop the same. Flat tax across the board.

I wouldn't mind paying the flush tax if it were being used as intended-clean up the Bay but that fund been raided (as has others) so Omalley can keep on increasing the size of the state govenment-the only jobs he knows how to create.

Don't forget Norm Conway is O'Malley's enabler. None of these taxes could have been imposed without Conway's approval. And don't forget that Conway's enabler and money man is Marty Neat,
AKA Mr. Moneygrip.
