SALISBURY, MARYLAND – March 21, 2012 - For over 50 years, libraries across the country have celebrated National Library Week, and this year Wicomico Public Library is challenging the community to get out and explore their local libraries from April 8 – April 14. Whether you are a job seeker looking for resources to land a new job, a parent looking for free activities for children or a student searching for your next favorite book, you belong @ your library.

Libraries offer so much more than books – and truly have something for everyone from our digital collections to cultural programming, eBooks, computer classes and more. Here are some suggestions:

Research your family’s history using our online subscription to AncestryPlus and Heritage Quest.

Attend a class or lecture at the Main Library or one of our branches.

Try out our digital collection - download an eBook or audio book to your personal device.

Need help with your job search? Learn about resumes, online applications, and interview strategies at one of our Job Search Centers.

Bring the kids to a story time.

Learn about a new technology – check our line-up of free computer classes at our branches.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS DURING NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK

In addition to the events highlighted below, Wicomico Public Library also offers free story times Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Main Library. Visit wicomicolibrary.org for more information. FREE

April 9: Lecture – Libraries Across Time. A look at images and maps of libraries as they grew from private, subscription libraries, to the public libraries we have today. May include old shots of downtown Salisbury and Wicomico County. 11 a.m. @ the Main Library, FREE

April 11: You Belong Sing-Along at the Main Library – Children aged 0 to 5 years old and their caregivers are invited to help us celebrate National Library Week in our story time sing-along, because YOU belong at your library! – 10:30 a.m., Main Library, FREE

April 13 & 14: Friends of Wicomico Public Library Book Sale, 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Main Library, Room 1

April 13 & 14: Friends of Wicomico Public Library Membership Drive – All day at the Main Library, Centre Branch and Pittsville Branch.
