Missing Deer Update

Mr Albero,

My Name is Jennifer Mansfield. I saw your post about the missing deer
the other day and thought you may be interested in the outcome. I had
a friend stop by saying they heard that it was on WBOC.com, so we
looked. My friend recognized the store as the one on Nanticoke Rd, as
she lived in that area she went there yesterday at lunchtime. The
girls working told her that the deer showed up late Tuesday and
"bunked down" in the back yard, with several people stopping, petting,
getting pics.....etc. On Wednesday a customer called DNR on him and
they (DNR) came out and picked him up. According to the girls DNR was
very nasty to them stating that they were going to destroy the deer
and they could have the store closed down by the health department.
Their reasons were all the Diseases that deer carry, anyone who
touched the deer and entered the store "compromised" the health and
welfare of the other people in and out of the store. If this is true
then they need to ban all hunters from entering any place of business,
after hunting, for the entire hunting season. I have done extensive
research and there are 6 diseases that deer can harbor. Only 1 (brain
abscess) is stated to not be consumed by humans, no other diseases are
transmittable to humans. Therefore DNR lied. I just wanted to put out
there the callous arrogance of the DNR. This deer was only trying to
survive and did not deserve to be destroyed! I hope you have the
willingness and the contacts to put this out there.

Thank You

"disease" is an excuse used to hide laziness and shows ignorance.
Was any attempt made to relocate the deer to a licensed facility that takes in wild animals?
I doubt it. Too much labor attached to try and find such a place when destoying the deer is much less work.

It is illegal to have pet deer in Maryland, most states for that matter, without a special license. Sorry about the deer, but it is the law.

This is sickening!!! There should be some consequences to them by their superiors for not doing their jobs properly!!!

Thanks to the writer of the article to let us know just how common & lazy some people are---Anyone know their names? f you do---I'm sure Joe will post it.

"Sorry about the deer but it is the law" says 12:14.

To kill a deer because someone has it as a pet? Really?
Please point out what law that may be 12:14.

What "law" is that 12:14 that says if someone is discovered with a wild animal as a pet the animal is automatically destroyed?

Shame it's the same law on feeding homeless people.

DNR has too many rules, Do we really need to pay to go fishing? Who the hell is looking out for the working man who might want to go fishing a few times a year?

Do any of you morons follow what is going on with the idiot that had all the exotic "pets" that were turned loose recently? not only that but the rut is beginning and that being an adult male deer, he is going to get aggressive in captivity and people should not be going up to it petting it. The DNR has to step in to protect people from their own stupidity and ignorance in these cases.

Quit bothering the police. You are a damn irritant. What makes you (or anyone else) think they are supposed to be nice, civil, respectful, or polite to you? Who do you think you are??? How can they write tickets, watch out for texting, make sure you are wearing your selt belt, stop pedestrians to check their ID's, and other "protecting and serving" when people like you keep interrupting that? They don't have time to play games with you and your kind. Do what you're told. Shut the hell up. Quit holding up (hindering & obstructing) justice and quit BOTHERING them.....

My cousin had a male whitetail deer for a pet.It was a highly intelligent animal and a great pet until it matured. It eventually became aggressive and dangerous, especially since it had horns. They gradually re-introduced it back into the wild instead of giving it to a zoo.I don't know if they can be fixed like a dog,but that might have helped.

Oh right 3:51 just because ONE mental case turns exotic animals loose in Ohio, every wild animal found in captivity illegally is supposed to be killed? Your logic is moronic. It's stupid to overreact just because ONE person does something crazy.

There are numerous deer petting zoos that could have been contacted to see if they wanted him. It would not have hurt a thing and most likely would not have resulted in criticism of the DNR if an attempt to find a legal home for him failed.

4:04 yeah I agree with you. everybody thinks the police have it so easy. imagine dealing with all the morons out there today! I'm just surprised the police don't snap and start culling the heard!

Yes, a male deer can be castrated. There are quite a few Santa Claus exhibits that use live deer also.

It wasn't kept in captivity. It was rescued at 2 days old because it's mother was hit by a car. It would have been inhuman to allow it to suffer and starve. The Health Department decided it had rabies because they are so lazy and arrogant, that it was easier to lie, bluff and intimidate people, instead of really doing their job. This deer though it was a dog as it lived in an area with several dogs, cats, goats, horses etc.......It was never in captivity and everyone that lived in it's "home area" knew to keep their distance til after rut. Nothing was sweeter than to look out the back door and see that deer "courting" does. this deer simply got lost and if the "powers that be" made a realistic attempt to locate the home area they could've learned the truth! If you Google deer it is amazing what you can learn instead of feeding the "fear" of others based on lies and innuendos!
