Kerry: It's The 'Tea Party Downgrade'
Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass, calls the recent U.S. credit rating downgrade the 'Tea Party downgrade' due to its refusal to allow tax increases, while Republicans criticize the president's lack of leadership.
Interesting; Kerry says the Tea Party refused to allow tax increases, S&P says the economy is out of control because Obama & Congress refused to make the necessary spending cuts. I thought it was S&P that reduces the rating not Kerry.
Some one needs to get him and his type a glass navel to see where they are going.
Lurch is clueless. Kerry also wants the media to not cover stories about the T.E.A. party. So much for 1st ammendment protections. Hey lefties out there, how can you defend these morons you elect?
The S&P said it downgraded the debt because of the political instability brought into the debt ceiling debate, something that heretofore had never been done. The TEA Party did that. And Sen. Mitch McConnell, leader of the Republicans in the Senate, has promised to do it every time the ceiling needs to be raised.
Now, I'm guessing you think it's a good thing the Republicans did, and that's your right. But S&P clearly laid the blame on the political infighting and future instability of the debt ceiling process, and Republicans own that completely.
And 11:06, I've always found it curious that war-happy conservatives attacked the one candidate in 2004 who actually went to Vietnam, as opposed to skipping out on yearly physicals to "serve" in the Air National Guard back home in Texas. Guess those UT home football games need protecting from the VietCong...
Yeah 7:28 Kerry was the one who lied about his service and medals too! Once a liar always a liar. There were two sides to that debate Richard Cranium! Wake up! gotta quit spending us into oblivian!!!
Why cannot everyone live within our means? If we did ,this would not have happened at all......I love the fact that everyone is more willing to point fingers and shout across the isle, then address the problems.
Fruitland Fruicake Senile Senior: Despite all of the debt warnings. Despite unprecidented spending by Obama. Despite the people in this coutry sending a clear message to Washington to stop the spending. Despite the Republicans passing 3 seperate bills to address the issue. Harry Reid refused to even allow a vote, and Obama open his big mouth and starts demonising the very group trying to fix this mess. It's not political instability, it is political insanity on the left! How much more borrowing is this country going to do? When do we start paying it back? Answer those questions you old fool!
to fruitland generic senior: what on earth do you read; listen to; watch? do you have a budget? do you know how to keep a budget? i know you have to be smarter than this. is your drinking water bad? what are you eating that could cause this problem? you must have some common sense. do you hang around weird liberals? are these libs in your family or are your friends and neighbors liberal? are you afraid of losing your soc. sec."? please get some help before it's too late. this is a bad disease and unless you get help it will progress.
9:55 & 10:33 - Rather than engage in name calling, can you please point to any factual errors I made? I'd be more than happy to engage in a reasoned debate. Just show my factually where I'm wrong and I'll be more than happy to answer. My point was in the report S&P delivered when they downgraded the country's credit rating, they blamed the political instability in the process that was engineered and desired by Republicans, specifically the Tea Party:
"[T]he downgrade reflects our view that the effectiveness, stability, and predictability of American policymaking and political institutions have weakened at a time of ongoing fiscal and economic challenges."
You may think what the Tea Party did was a good thing, but you can't deny their actions were a prime factor in S&P downgrading the nation's credit.
So Fruitland what you are saying is that because the Tea Party is fighting to get government to slash spending - like S&P says is necessary - passed three bills doing just that, and never received a single plan, credible or not, from the Kerry types who just want more money without the restructuring needed, they are being obstructionist. Love to meet your dealer and get some of what you're smoking. Maybe I could get weird too.
1:45, The Tea Party isn't fighting to slash spending, they are fighting to slash entitlements. You see it as a good thing, I'm betting. I do not, because they do so at the exclusion of almost any other method of reducing the deficit.
Here's the problem - discretionary domestic spending (that's the stuff Congress actually has the ability to fund at any level they wish, or not at all, from year-to-year but not including the military budget) represents just 12% of the federal budget each year. You could zero out all those programs and agencies you hate - the EPA, OSHA, FAA, NOAA, National Endowment for the Arts, NPR, and it wouldn't a measureable dent into the national debt.
Now, am I saying there shouldn't be cuts? No, there should be. And from those programs, too. But also cuts should be made from the Defense budget as well. There should be means-testing for Medicare and Social Security for wealthier Americans. The gov't should be allowed to competitively bid out prices for drugs covered under federal health programs. All of those suggestions are non-starters for conservative lawmakers in DC. They won't even have the discussion.
And there has to be meaningful tax reform. GE paying zero dollars in federal tax and Microsoft paying an effective rate of 8% is criminal while you and I pay tax rates in the high 20s and low 30s. Capital gains tax at 15% and its use as a tax dodge by millionaires and billionaires must be addressed. Again, conservatives won't even let you finish a sentence that has anything to do with adjusting capital gains tax rate.
The Tea Party doesn't want to hear that. We'll cancel food stamps and unemployment checks and NPR and our work is done!
You can't cut entitlements only and get a balanced budget or a meaningful debt reduction. And until the Tea Party realizes that, it won't be reduced in a meaningful way.
Remember this--- if you or I managed OUR money like Congress manages OUR money (that's right...its ALL OUR MONEY, but they think it is THEIRS!) we would be in PRISON. Prison. Not jail. Prison. And whatever it takes (and I MEAN--- whatever it takes), do it. we are the laughingstock of the world. Haiti has a better international reputation than we do. Okay, I made that last part up. But give obama another couple of months. You'll think I was the reincarnation of Nostradamus.
John Kerry shot himself in the foot to get out of Nam and then testified about false war atrocities allegedly committed by his fellow soldiers. He was also caught last year parking his yacht in another state to avoid paying taxes. What a great guy.

Kerry what an Idiot. Democrats never take responsibility for their mistakes.

John Kerry is almost as stupid as Alan Colmes.
It's the "Blame Game" which is the only game the left has left!

Stop spending!! Stop sending money to foreign countries. Stop supporting illegals.
So let me get this straight John Kerry...
If we had simply raised the debt limit like you wanted and not cut spending, everything would have been fine.
OK, now I get it...
