If you rape and murder someone the law of the land you are in should have precedence not international law. He brutally raped and murdered a young woman. Time to meet his maker and be judged. He was already judged by man.

Go Texas. Forget what the White House has to say about the intent of the law. The law is the law.

Gov Perry for President; glad to see someone with some cajones.

texas is the leading executioner in the country but that doesn't lower crime in the state.

They should bring back public hangings. Who wouldn't pack a lunch to see someone like Leggs or Dr.Bradley swing in the breeze? Make a nice day out of it.

It must be so nice to only see things in black and white. To not have the brain capacity to understand the importance of robust international law.

The guy had right to speak to the consulate. It's not like he would've walked on the charges. You all need to get your heads out of your @$$3$.

Maryland needs to learn a lesson with this and start putting the worthless lifers in prison out their misery and out of the taxpayers pockets supporting them

"texas is the leading executioner in the country but that doesn't lower crime in the state."

Oh but it will if they keep up the good work - even if it's only one at a time, those won't be committing any more crimes.

Don't mess with Texas! Perhaps they should rent some billboards on the Mexico side of the board that say that in spanish.

9:45 But it gets justice for the victims who were brutally raped and murdered!!! Go back under your rock, you low life! Justice is the main focus of the law. Victims cannot scream from the grave! If they could, they'd be screaming at the LACK of Justice in Wicomico county for child rapists and murderers who rape and bury bodies with no thought for human life or decency. Texas makes sure when someone takes a life, they pay the ultimate price = JUSTICE!

"A technicality doesn't give anyone a right to come to this country and rape, torture and murder anyone," she said. ( the murdered, raped, beaten, left with a large stick with a nail in it stuck in her to die 's mother...very astute woman!)

From 2010 to 2011, Leal was eventually visited by a member of the Mexican consulate more than 10 times, Judy Garces, press relations spokeswoman with the Mexican consulate in San Antonio, told CNN.

The state argued that Leal never revealed his Mexican citizenship at arrest, and his defense team never raised the consular access issue at trial.

Prosecutors also say the evidence against him was indisputable. The victim was tortured, and a bite mark on her body was matched to Leal. A bloody shirt belonging to Sauceda was discovered at the suspect's home.

Why don't you get your head outta your own ass. Is that black and white enough for ya?

Leal's lawyers had asked a federal judge in San Antonio to delay the execution until Congress can pass the legislation. But U.S. District Court Judge Orlando Garcia -- no relation to the inmate -- said no.

He ruled last week the consulate claim was "utterly lacking in arguable merit."

The high crime in Texas is due to the stream of illegals allowed to cross the border every day.Lucky for Texas, the illegals soon find out that Maryland will embrace them with open arms. How can you worry about international law when we dont enforce our own laws?

10:37 - the man has lived in the US since he was TWO years old, he grew in the US, and had a drivers licence. He had no reasonable connection to Mexico.
It's nice to know you would let a rapist and murderer skirt state law based on a technicality used for people who are VISITING the US.

The man has been in the US since he was 2 yrs old. He's no more entitled to international law than I am. If he had moved to MD he could have gone to college as an in state student!

To 3:23: I agree whole heartedly!! I also think Wicomico County needs to look at its own justice system beginning with the very judges who oversee the courts. They are shady at best and definately do "not" look out for the children of this county! They "do" however , look out for the lowlife defense attorney's here. The word "payoff" always rings a bell when I hear the name of certain "dis" honorable judges of Wicomico. Just look at all the sex offenders walking around us on a daily basis. The judges get rich while our children walk in danger. Shortened terms would be welcomed!
