Florida Joins States Calling For Parental Rights Amendment

Florida has become the fifth state to pass a resolution calling on the U.S. Congress to send the Parental Rights Amendment to the U.S. Constitution to the states for ratification. The Florida Senate voted 38–0 in favor of SM 954 after the Florida House passed its companion (HM 557) by a voice vote.
Florida becomes the third state this year to call for the amendment; Idaho and Montana both passed similar measures in early March. Both South Dakota and Louisiana passed similar resolutions in 2010.

Louisiana’s resolution last year was accepted unanimously in both houses, with a Democrat plurality in the House (then made up of 52 Democrats, 50 Republicans, and 3 Independents) and a Democrat majority in the Senate. Florida’s resolution enjoyed a Republican majority in both houses, but was also bipartisan with 10 of 12 Senate Democrats voting in favor (1 was absent, and 1 did not vote). In all, Florida Democrats on record voted 17–3, or 85%, in favor of this memorial (resolution). Republican support was 98%.

“I applaud the Florida legislature for their vote,” said Michael Farris, president of ParentalRights.org. “Florida’s bipartisan vote shows that preserving parental rights is not a Democrat or Republican issue—it is an American issue.

I call on the U.S. Congress to pass the Parental Rights Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and send it to the states for ratification.”

Information about the Parental Rights Amendment is available online at ParentalRights.org.

Parents don't "own" their children.

Who do you think owns their children, the government?

So if parents want to keep their children home and teach them only witchcraft, they should have a right to do that? (Witches, don't go wacko on me; that's just an example) This amendment is hogwash.

10:47, last time I checked, no one had a deed to any person, child or otherwise.

Parents have a God-given right and responsibility to raise their children the best they can.
They are not wards of the 'state', they are members of the family from which they come, and are to be brought up by that family.
As a parent I have the ultimate right and responsibility to choose what my child is to do, and to bring him up the way I see best.
Aside from the obvious situations where the life or safety of a child is in jeopardy, the government does NOT have the right to dictate to parents how their child is to be raised.
Liberals (especially the NEA and Planned Parenthood) have dragged us so far off track that most people have begun to think of children as ultimately under the control of the state (like it was in Germany before WWII).
It won't be long before that becomes fact in Obama's America.

Parental rights are already constitutionally protected according to a long line of Supreme Court cases. The only time the "State," read also "government" can interfere with the parental rights is if the parent is proven unfit, or the child is in danger. There already has to be a compelling State interest in order for the government to override the parents' wishes. As for the U.N., they have also passed resolutions for the protection of the children, but do not override a parents' rights unless the child is in danger.

The Bible says:
"Sons are a heritage from the LORD, children a reward from him."--Psalm 127

They are NOT gifts to the state. They are gifts to the PARENTS.

The child is of the same flesh and bone as the parents. In that sense, they are ONE flesh with, and belong to, their parents.

Liberals want to take control of the children at the earliest possible time to prevent parents from instilling values that are contrary to what the liberals want. Like belief in God, for instance.

If you really love your children, raise them right (and do it by example..). Don't leave it to the schools or the state.

The UN Treaty on the Rights of the Child not only overrules the parents, but overrules US sovreignity.
And if the government declares arbitrarily that there is a 'danger' to the child's welfare, oh well..
One supreme court justice has stated that the constitution as it is today does not SPECIFICALLY protect parental rights.
It needs to be clarified and protected by an amendment.
