vie Ticket Sales Last Year Lowest Since 1996

Although ever-growing ticket price inflation somewhat masks the slowdown, fewer people are going to movie theaters. Sales slumped to 1.35 billion in 2010, a 5.4 percent drop from 2009 and the lowest mark since 1.33 billion tickets were sold in 1996. Revenues were still high, surpassing $10 billion for the second time ever, thanks to high ticket costs and 3D surcharges.

Movie theatres priced themselves out of business a long time ago. If it wasn't for the big screen die hards they'd all be out of business. I've gone to the movies one time since the new place opened at the Centre at Salisbury to check out the new seats.
I've not been back. In my opinion, they're even more uncomfortable. The prices are just way out of line!

Unruly, impolite, and self-centered teenagers with their constant chatter, remarks to the screen, and, of course, the non-stop texting while the movie is on is a reason, too. They sit in the back of the theatre and seem to revel in paying 10-15 dollars apiece to ruin the movie for the rest of the customers. I'm not paying that kind of money to go through that each time and I'm not alone....

Prices too high. Movie quality is hit or miss. Rude people. Stinky people. Expensive food.

This compared to relatively inexpensive flat screens. HD on Verizon Fios w/ ondemand. Good food at home with a sexy woman too. Think I'll stay in for movie night.

I agree with many that have commented above. The tickets are over priced and the food.....well we all know that it's way over priced. We have not been to a movie since Twister was in the theater. We are happier at home, it's cheaper and comfy!

hollywood can only come up with redos. most new movies are pretty BAD and cost too much. Red box is only a dollar. We have the patience to wait.
