MAN ARRESTED FOR INTENTIONALLY ATTEMPTING TO RUN OVER CITIZENS WITH VEHICLE

On November 21, 2010, at approximately 9 p.m., Ocean City Police officers responded to Pickles Pub (711 Philadelphia Avenue) for a reported hit and run vehicle collision involving a pedestrian who sustained injuries. Police determined the suspect, later identified as Alan Phillip Flynn, 32, of Ocean City, allegedly became intoxicated while in Pickles Pub and was asked by the establishment’s management to leave. Flynn then allegedly spat on an employee and the victim. The victim and bar employee followed Flynn outside where Flynn entered a vehicle parked across the street. Witnesses related Flynn intentionally drove his vehicle at and struck the victim. The vehicle also hit a tree. Flynn fled the scene. OCPD broadcast a lookout for the vehicle being driven by Flynn, which was subsequently located unoccupied by a Worcester Sheriff's Deputyin West Ocean City. While officers were at Pickles Pub conducting witness and victim interviews, Flynn returned to the scene in a taxi cab. When Flynn saw the police, he attempted to flee the area in the cab. The taxi stopped a half block away and Flynn jumped out of the cab. He attempted to flee on foot. After a short foot pursuit Flynn attempted to hide in a crawl space underneath an 8th Street apartment building. With assistance of Maryland State Police and Berlin Police K-9 officers, Flynn surrendered to the OCPD. Flynn was arrested and taken to Atlantic General Hospital with a possible knee injury he sustained while fleeing from police. He was treated and released to police custody. Flynn is charged with 1st and 2nd degree assault along with multiple traffic-related charges including DUI, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident as well as fleeing and eluding police. The victim was transported to Atlantic General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, treated and released. Flynn was seen by an Ocean City District Court Commissioner and held on $10,000 bond. He was transferred to the Worcester County Jail.
