On October 2, 2010, at approximately 8 a.m., Ocean City Police responded to 122nd Street and Coastal Highway, for a pedestrian collision.
Police determined that a pedestrian was attempting to cross Coastal Highway using an unmarked highway crosswalk. A driver of a vehicle making a u-turn from south to north at 120th Street failed to the see the person crossing the highway and struck the pedestrian in the roadway at 122nd
Street.
The victim identified as a 63-year-old male, was taken by Maryland State Police helicopter to Peninsula Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. At the time of this release, the pedestrian is still being treated at PRMC. The driver was treated for an unrelated medical
condition and was also taken to an area hospital for treatment. Police are investigating the collision and charges are pending.
Ocean City Police are advising both pedestrians and drivers, even though the busy summer season is over, Ocean City roads remain busy. Pedestrians should continue to exercise caution when crossing roadways. When possible use marked crosswalks with pedestrian crossing signals. Look both ways
and allow plenty of time to get to where you are going. Drivers should continue to be vigilant for pedestrians, bicycles, mopeds and scooters.
During winter months there are also school buses dropping off and picking up children. Vehicles are not allowed to pass stopped school buses when the
school bus red flashing lights are activated.
If you have any questions regarding either pedestrian or vehicle safety, please contact the Ocean City Police Departments Public Affairs Office at 410-723-6665.

Gotta love that police talk; "an unmarked highway crosswalk"!
Hint: If it's not painted on the road, it's not a crosswalk, it's just road.
