Despite strides, could fathers once again use an image boost?
SPOKANE, Wash. - Father's Day was started a century ago because its founder Sonora Smart Dodd was upset by widespread mocking of fathers in popular culture as lazy, sleazy and drunk.
This June 20 marks the 100th anniversary of Father's Day, and while today's fathers have come a long way, some would say they could once again use an image boost thanks to the much-mocked antics of the likes of Tiger Woods and Jon Gosselin.
While it is easy to take shots at dads who mess up, it's important to focus on the important role of men, said Michael Gurian, an author who specializes in the struggles of men in the modern world.

Ive spent over half my life trying to be the father that mine never was. I quess in the long scheme of things he kinda did me a favor.
Look at damn near every father figure in just about every sitcom on television. The dad is a lazy, dim-witted fool, who is lucky to have a nice (sometimes hot) wife who also does all the work.
Some of the more recent examples off the top of my head are King of Queens, Everybody Loves Raymond, The Simpsons, etc...
ROFLMAO Ron.I have said the same thing often.And did you ever notice that the fatter and sloppier the TV husband/father is,the hotter the TV wife is?Unrealistic,unless said TV Dad has $$$$.
I cant fault Jon Gosselin for the wholesale "whoring out" of his kids because its obvious to anyone who ever watched the show that Kate was the REAL husband in that marriage ......and he just did what she said.
