Pittsville Middle School Teacher Killed In Motorcycle Accident

Salisbury News has come to learn that Mr. Joseph Binkowski, (Tech Ed Teacher) at Pittsville Middle School was killed in a motorcycle accident yesterday. He will be GREATLY missed by all his past and present students.

This information is just coming in on this Folks so give us some time to get more details. We did learn that the accident was not local. One source tells us the accident may have happened in Kentucky. More to come......

UPDATE: I received a phone call earlier today from one, (out of 6) of Joe's children. He filled me in on what actually happened and felt we should share that with all of you.

Joe was with a friend riding his BMW motorcycle in the mountains outside Philadelphia. He was only traveling 35 mph at the time of the accident. The temperature yesterday became so hot, Joe decided to take his helmet off, (something he rarely ever did) and at one point the bike just went out from underneath him and he struck his head.

The Medical Examiner did state that if he had been wearing his helmet he would be alive today. Joe was flown to the hospital via Medovac but they could not save him. Salisbury News will provide funeral information just as soon as it becomes available.

The accident happened in Pennsylvania. Please pray for his 6 children. They have a tough, tough road ahead of them. And they are an AMAZING family.

I worked with Joe for many years. He was a kind, giving, caring and helpful person and a wonderful teacher. He put those around him before himself. Without being asked, he went out of his way on many occasions to help me when I needed it. He always had a smile, an encouraging word, and a inspiring outlook on life. He will be missed!

Mr B , AKA the Binkster, AKA Binky was my wife and I's principal at Crusader's Christian Academy back in 82-83. Always tough but fair. Willing to have a listening ear to kids that were having a tough time and show compassion. I thought it was very cool that he ended up teaching one of our kids at Pittsville. My mother in law text me yesterday right after the accident happened to tell us about it. At the time he was still breathing and in route to a PA hospital. Then she let us know he had passed away. He will be missed. Pray for his ex-wife Judy and all their kids as they face this tough time. Long live the memory of "The Bink".....

RIP Joe. You were a really, really great guy, and I'm honored I got to know you and enjoy some time with you. What a great family those Binkowski's are.

My prayers are with his family. He taught my wife years ago and my daughter this year. And I had the pleasure of selling him new windows for his house a few years ago where I realized he had taught my wife. He was a dedicated teacher who will be missed deeply.

Yes, he does teach at Bennett Middle and is my son's tech ed teacher this year. He will be greatly missed. One of his first lessons this year was to use safety equipment properly. Hopefully, his last lesson to his students is to wear proper safety equipment outside the shop as well.

Very sad news for something that could have been prevented. Even though this wonderful teacher that has touched so many lives has been lost, let us not forget the importance here: HELMETS SAVE LIVES! Yes, they are hot to wear, yes they are uncomfortable but please wear them! Freak accidents happen and we are not immortal! Sadness overwelms me with this great loss.

I am so glad I came to Pittsville this year to meet this wonderful teacher in his last years. I will always remember him and I'm so happy he's in a better place. I know God has excepted him but I also know that someway God will send him back down to earth someday for other people to enjoy as much as me and all the other people that he taught in the last 28 years at Pittsville Elem. and Middle School.

REST IN PEACE MR. B

Adding on to other comments, the "Tech Ed" room isn't a tech ed room because for me and lots of other students and teachers, it's Mr. B's room and it always will be no matter how many years have passed. I loved him deeply and so did many other people. once again GOD BLESS THE WHOLE FAMILY

My sincerest condolensces to "Mr. B's" family. He made such a positive impression on me as my principal in Crusaders Christian Academy in the early 80s. What a great guy (even if it was nearly 30 years ago)-- he will most certainly be missed.

mr.b you were the best technology education i ever had and not even mr.m can replace you..i will always know all of the times i had been bad or wrong in your class i wish i could take back...the last thing i said to you was..."whatever mr.b" i cant believe how nieve i was i feel like if i would have done something different that you would still be here today and pittsville school wouldnt always be sadend. our chourus teacher wouldnt cry when she thinks she saw you in the hallway. or when she accidently calls your room and your not there its makes us all burst and relize we will never see you again. but one day we will just stop and relize one day you will be back with us as a different person but we will maybe someday meet. i love you mr b and hope this reaches to you somehow..
