FIRST LADY KATIE O’MALLEY TO JOIN BALTIMORE CITY MAYOR STEPHANIE RAWLINGS-BLAKE AT BALTIMORE’S 2010 FLOWERMART FESTIVAL

ANNAPOLIS, MD – First Lady Katie O’Malley today will join Baltimore City Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and other elected officials and community leaders to kick off Baltimore City’s 2010 Flowermart Festival.

In its 93rd year, Flowermart was founded by the Mount Vernon Home and Garden Committee and the Municipal Art Society to celebrate spring and the local arts community around the Washington Monument in Mount Vernon Place, Baltimore. In its current form, Flowermart is one of the first street fairs of the season, featuring vendors selling flowers, seeds, potted plants, artwork, jewelry, clothing and pottery. Now in its 93rd year in Baltimore, Flowermart has also inspired similar festivals around the country. Flowermart events include: the Maypole Dance; the Hilda Mae Snoops Art Contest; the Hat and Cap Contest; the Red Hat Contest; a Pet Parade and Mascot Contest; a Dance Competition; and many musical and dance performances over the two day festival.
