Unemployment Fraud

Joe,

Can you please post something about unemployment fraud in Maryland and what can be done about it. I know of a dirty, rotten, drug addicted extended family member who continues collect unemployment insurance checks and has been for several months. This person was in jail for 3 weeks and still got her check. She has no intention of getting a job and has not even tried. She buys drugs with her money and is now saving it for bail money to get her equally drug addicted, dirtbag boyfriend out of jail. I really don't think Maryland cares about this subject. I called the bureaucrats at the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing & Regulation about this particular case and got the feeling they could care less.

I found this information useful.
http://dllr.maryland.gov/whatsnews/uifraud.shtml

seems like they are back logged. Over 200 cases were reported for July and August.

Im hoping this is the case and they will finally get to your case and do something about it.

I know a person who got fired from his job over a year ago. The reason for the termination was self-induced. Since being on unemployment he has: went to Atlantic City a hand full of times, Been press box at the Capitols vs. Penguins, Backyard Brawl (Pitt vs. WVU) Football game, SUPERBOWL, a couple ski trips, and the list goes on. This scum has not tried to find any work that would not allow him to receive his government check. In fact, he has now found a job that allows him to work under the table. He sells umbrellas on the beach. It is absolutely ridiculous that they are now going to extend his benefits again. Is there anyone out there that can stop this nonsense?

Names please? if you truly want to do something about it, put their names out there! One of two things will happen, they will discover some pride and do the right thing or they the government will find out and hopefully rectify the situation.

i probally know of a dozen + people who are on unemployment and working under the table probally making more than i make in a week. It eats me up. I happen to work in the rental business and all you here is them say "I'm waiting on my check" but now its on a card.

also this leads to a whole other subject..but i really do think people who receive govt money should be drug tested. If you do drugs you do not deserve my hard earned tax dollars. I get drug tested for work & if i dont pass ill loose my job.

Maryland has never cared about stuff like this!
This is partly why your taxes are so darned high in Maryland!
You'd better be prepared to give them names, dates, times and anything else you can but also know that you're gonna have to go pretty darn far up to get anything done.
Seems like most of the wrong doers have friends or family taking care of the "system".

As long as those people will be eligeble voters in the next election, they will continue to be supported by the Dems in charge.

I thought if you got fired you couldn't get unemployment.

I firmly believe that people who are receiving taxpayer funded handouts should be required to execute regular drug tests and report on where they have applied for work. Unfortunately, oversight of such requirements would be very costly, especially if run by the government. If the government was reqiured to run like business, it would be filing bankruptcy on a regular basis.

As is the case of a LARGE percentage of the unemployed in this town.

I think that people who get a check from the government should perform community service as well as drug test. I understand that they need a portion of the day to fill out applications, but some of their time should go to supporting the community that supports them.

It should be "couldn't care less." If you "could care less," then you shouldn't complain.

If you don't have something constructive to add to the topic then shut up. This is a serious problem butt perhaps you enjoy your tax dollars being spent on worthless bags of crap who don't work, won't work, and can't work because they can't pass drug screening and the State of Maryland continues to pay these dirt bags anyway. Go Away!

I think you CAN get unemployment if you are terminated but they penalize you so many weeks.I empathize with anyone who is unemployed but frankly I do not know how anyone can live on it unless they have "low overhead"(no rent, mortgage or other big payments to make).
As far as abuse goes, its there.I know of people who have been collecting it for almost a year, not sure how that works.I got6 laid off like 20 yrs ago and was told I only had 26 weeks of benefits, but who knows how much things have changed in that amount of time.

I happen to think that having proper grammar will make a person's argument more credible. Yes, unemployment fraud is a very serious problem. Grammar abuse is also a very serious problem. I am adding something constructive to the problem of rampant abuse of the English language. If people are so insistent that everyone in America "learn English or go home," I feel it is their duty to learn it also. :)

You complain about the abuse of unemployment in a way that doesn't add anything constructive to the solution...so perhaps you shouldn't be so quick to get attitude with me about not offering up a solution to the concerned citizen except to perhaps use proper grammar to better light themselves.
