N.Y. Pizzeria, No Longer The Best

I'll be the first to admit, it's been quite a while since I spoiled myself at N.Y. Pizzeria but to be frank, they're well out of my way and I just haven't had the chance to drop in.

That being said, we happened to be in Fruitland Friday night and when we were driving home my Wife said, let's get a Pizza from N.Y. Pizzeria.

We pulled in and I have to admit, I was excited to get one of those Bronx Bomber Pizza's with the works. We happen to enjoy the one with the Ricotta Cheese, N.Y. Sausage, Garlic, MMMMMMMM!

We walked in and the first thing we noticed was the filthy floors. The place just didn't look very clean but we ordered the Pizza anyway. I said, give me that monster sized Pizza with the sausage, ricotta cheese and garlic. It came to almost $26.00 but I always say, if it taste good, who gives a crap what you're paying.

After waiting and sitting around looking at the filth everywhere, the pizza came in a box with a strip of tape across the top to seal it. We left thinking, man, I can't wait to dig into this thing. We got home and without any hesitation I cut the tape and opened the box.

Wait a minute, NO GARLIC? NO SAUSAGE? Just a plain white pizza with Ricotta cheese? $26.00!!!!!!!!!!!! I should have known better. The BRONX isn't what it used to be and neither is N.Y. Pizzeria!

They can call me and tell me they'll make it up to me, NO THANKS PAUL. I spoke to several people since last night and they said they regularly get deliveries with no sauce, "we''ll get you next time," they claim you say. They had a great thing going but for $26.00 we'll order 2 extra large pizza's from Delmar Pizza and actually ENJOY what we get.

Stay off the sauce too Paul, if'n you know what I mean.

I'm really sorry to read this. I have for years heard without a doubt it is the best pizza in town. Most original was the selling point. Hopefully, the owner reads and will get his act together.

NY Pizzeria is way over priced!! If you are ever around west ocean city, try the pizza at J&J's Pizzeria. They are in the old Mulligans building next to Watermans. Good pizza without breaking the bank.

Joe, I am glad you mentioned this because my employment took me behind their counters when they first open and it was disgusting. I am surprised the Health Department gave them a permit to operate. I remember at that time you were bragging about how great their pizza and I was thinking if you only knew.

That place is no different than any restaurant around here. No Different!! The restaurants start off with great food and clean premises and then for some reason they forget to clean their facilities. Another case in point, Brew River. That place is one of filthiest restaurants around town. They have nasty carpeting, unsanitary restrooms, shards broken glass in the bathroom from the drunks breaking their beer bottles and glass cups. It reeks of booze. The employees rarely wash their hands before handling your food. It is just gross. On top of that it is in a freaking ghetto and now you have to pay for parking.

Look what happened to Waterman's Cove in Salisbury. A failed busines for many reasons.

All fast food restaurants are extremely disgusting in Salisbury. None of the employees wash their hands and it is not uncommon to see an employee go into a bathroom, handle their package, flush the toilet, touch the door handle and then return to the kitchen to prepare your sandwich. Yes it happens all the time. Just the other day I was in the Burger King on Mt. Hermon and Civic Avenue and I witnessed an employee do just that. I am done with burger kings in Salisbury.

Now I will give credit to 2 of the Subways in town. At least they wear and change gloves while handling food.

Cleanliness and renovations are something restaurant owners have no clue about. And no wonder, look how nasty the City of Salisbury is. GHETTOVILLE!!

Oh, yeah, Help is on the Way!!

Ok where to begin. Maybe the place was not as clean as you remember it being in the past, and maybe they did screw up your order and yeah maybe $26.00 for a pizza is pricey, but that is business. Telling someone on a public forum who obviously in the past has satisfied you business wise to "stay off the sauce" is personal not business and shows no class on your part at all. If you weren't satisfied with the product and service, fine. But to put the man out there like that with no reason, that is just wrong. As always (mine included) oppinions are like anus holes..everyone has one, but it don't mean you have to be one

$26.00 for a pizza? You got to be out of your mind paying for a pizza that cost $26.00. Delmara Pizza has the best pizza for half that price. You should know that.

Joe:

Make mine Lombardi's at the Twilley Center on Mt. Hermaon Road and Civic Avenue in the 'Bury -- good (clean) place, good folks and good food!

Just do it.

I called there last night around 8:30 and wanted to order 2 slices of plain cheese pizza. I was told that all they had left was white pizza and pepperoni. Are you trying to tell me that they couldn't make a fresh cheese pizza and sell the slices by closing? Whatever happened to customer service? I also went somewhere else. I haven't been to Delmar Pizza but I will have to try them when I am up in that area.

I too enjoy N.Y. Pizza, but have also noticed a decline in quality. You're right, the place is absolutely filthy. I love the garlic knots, but the last order I got was completely saturated with oil on the inside. So much so that it actually ran out when I bit into them. It's too bad that they can't keep some level of excelence.

A little too much sauce affecting the sauce?

Phronesis said...

You're right. The quality of our Friday night pizza was far lower than our previous one there, which was several months ago. The sauce was skimpy, the crust not as good as I remembered. The place was looking pretty dirty and sort of uncomfortably odd for some reason. Maybe it's because there were no customers in the eat-in side of the shop.
I hope that they can pull it back together soon, or they'll be looking at zero customers on both sides, which would be too bad.

We got pizza there one time and that was enough for us - Delmar Pizza is very good.

I make my own.

You can get a good sammich there in the afternoon, but when the special sauce kicks in things get sloppy when the sun goes down. Joe is like an umpire, he calls it like he sees it. no toppings MR topper?

Customer service is lacking throughout Salisbury. When you find a place with good employees taking pride in the place and what they do, it's a gem. Give them your business to keep them in business.

To the person who took a jab at Mayor Ireton on this, get a grip. He doesn't control private business and this has been a problem in Salisbury for years.

Lombardis in the Twilley Center is good pizza if you eat it THERE. The 3 or 4 times I have gotten it to go it really loses something once it is out the door. Sauce is lousy, dough not right. I cant explain it it is just weird. Love to eat it there-but not to go for me.

Not only the sauce... he has admitted to me that he also enjoys snow during all seasons.

When I want a good hamburger OR pizza we drive to DELMARA PIZZA It is always good and fresh. We live south in salisbury so its not like we are net door. It is always worth the trip.

Anonymous said...

Us too! We got pizza there about 2 months ago for the first and last time. I had heard such great things about it .... sure did not get my vote. I like Lombard's as well. The place is CLEAN and everyone is so pleasant. Spice

Joe
We think tims pizza is the best. We never had a problem with there food and there pizza is priced very good.

About 5 months ago, I had to order 20 pizzas for a party I was having. The pizza's and the service was great then. It must have recently gone downhill.

Pats pizza is good too i either go there Delmar,Sams club or Lombardis....

After I read the reviews on this blog the last time, we decided to head over there to give `em a try.

While the pizza was basically OK, it was not worth going out of our way for it, as the service was marginal, and the floors appeared to be dirty.

Apparently, things have not changed much since then, or if they have, it has been for the worse.

As for public restrooms, check out the ones at Regal Cinemas. They get cleaned daily, and are the cleanest ones I've seen anywhere.

We started going to Route 12 Pizza on Snow Hill Road and enjoyed it.

I think Diepietro's h(u guys call it NY Pizza) has the best Pizza in town. Since they expanded though, it has gotten dirtier inside.

Anonymous said...

Sorry guys i agree it has lost me. I got two slices of the crab meat pizza. In less than 5 minutes after leaving there. I had the Bronx Bomber outta my butt. Sorry so graphic, but they need to toss old pizza. Keep it fresh guys you still got the best crust in town.

Delmar Pizza for pizza, and Subside Deli for subs.
You can't go wrong with those two.

Chimera said...

I agree with Doug.I like to make my own.If you arent into dough, you can buy prepackaged crusts that are pretty decent.

Come on people you gotta keep supporting them because if you don't they won't be able to pay the Cannon Slumlord brothers the rent. We used to eat at Pat's all the time until they did us a dirty turn on night and I mean a dirty turn. Delmar Pizza has good food but some of their server's leave a lot to be desired. If you really want filthy dining exposure try Daytons their kitchen is the worlds worst. If the people eating in these places took a good look at where they eating and how dirty it is they would stay home and eat. I'm with Doug Wilkerson we'll make it at home that way we know its clean!

My wife and I ate at NY PIZZA last week and it was AWFUL. The service was terrible and the place is absolutely filthy. We used to love their pizza but we will not be going back.

Have lived in this area for over a decade now and just last month tried Delmar Pizza... WOW, like everyone says- great place! Wish we had a place like that in Salisbury since so few restaurants around here seem to get it right.

I am partial because I live in Laurel, DE but this restaurant just opened last year called "Laurel Pizzeria" and it is PHENOMENAL!!! We have eaten there at all times and tried so many different items and everything has always been great! The wings make you drool just thinking about them! I took my dad and brother for dinner. So 4 apps., 2 entrees (they are all big enough to share)and 4 drinks came to $42.00 and there were leftovers to savor later!!! You have got to go there! It is VERY clean and we always get really wonderful wait staff. It is our favorite place and I can't see it getting beat any time soon.

My family and I tried N.Y. Pizza about a month ago and got the white pizza by the slice. We liked it so much we got the bomber last week for dinner. It was great again, and $26.00 is not a high price to feed a family of 4 and still have 3 pieces for me to bring to work the next day.

Lombardi's has great pizza and great staff who make you feel at home. It's a throwback to the days of going out, not spending a lot of money, and feeling like you are actually important to them. No pretentiousness, just great food and great people to take care of you.

We've noticed this happens all the time. You have a GREAT thing going, think you need to expand, you expand & your GREAT thing is gone. Next thing you know you're closing up shop. Why not just keep the GREAT thing you HAD?

Tims Pizza - Extra Large Cheese, or with Gyro Meat. Very good for the price.

Hey joe,
You are the biggest fattest loser of a person for making comments like that,i eat there every week and love the pizza and cheese steaks, just because they forgot a topping on your pizza you bad mouth the guy, people make mistakes,it was probably because they are super busy all the time when i am there, something must be good, why dont you have a set of balls and just return the food i am sure they would have made you a new pie, go eat that SHIT pats, lombardis, tims, delmar pizza,ECT ECT did you see thay got best pizza in SALISBURY From Metropolitan magazine beat all those other shit holes, you better hope i dont run it you FAT BOY .NICE PICTURE.......

Anonymous 11:00, I don't think it takes much to figure out WHO would be so defensive in such a comment. Owners usually get uptight like that.

Nevertheless, it takes balls for someone like me to MAN UP and use my real name and not hide behind anonymous, especially when threats are involved.

Now, that being said, Mr. Pussy, perhaps you didn't read I came all the way from Delmar, DE. to get that pizza and I wasn't about to turn around and drive ALL the way back there to get it right. I paid $26.00 for what I ordered, you got my money and you'll never get my business again.

As for your Metropolitan #1 Best Pizza, you PAY for that.

One of the reasons why this business has fallen apart is because of their denial. No One can deny the place is filthy, just walk in there and it's very obvious. A GOOD Businessman would have come on here and said, Mr. Albero, we're sorry you had a bad experience with our business. We'd like the opportunity to make it up to you as we realize you came a long way and we'll take the constructive critisism to heart and work on these issues immediately.

NOPE, instead, you come on here threatening me, (and clearly others) as I did not write the other comments and clearly people aren't very happy with how this business has taken a nose dive.

Good Luck with your future there because IMHO you'll need it. Oh, notice how my name is on this comment too.

Customer service and the Eastern Shore, good luck with that. Ive never had so many carry out orders incorrect in my entire life. Ive only been here about 5 yrs and have seen this pattern of "who gives a sh*t" everywhere around here. Go ahead support a "local" business that keeps feeding you crap. There is a very low standard here,, in case you were wondering.

Nothing beats Flavors Italian Grill downtown for pizza in my opinion. They have a real brick oven, unlike Rt12 pizza. NY pizza is real good though, I have never had a problem there. Plus they sometimes let you bring your own wine/beer.

You know we used to order from there alot as well but as everyone else has stated it has gone downhill. I ordered baked ziti a couple weeks back after vowing to never eat there again and I found 2 huge chunks of hlf cooked chicken in my ziti, after a phone call the explanation was sorry, must have been too close to the noodles for chicken alfredo.. insane.. never again!
