Chuck E. Cheese
Dear Joe,
This past weekend My friend and I took his kids to the Chuck E Cheese in the Salisbury Mall. The kids had a great time, however I started noticing alot of the machines in the place were broken or out of order. Now you would only find this out by putting money in the machines. It was brought to the attention of one one of the employee's but nothing was ever done. In fact one of the employee's sat and played on his cell phone when this was going on. We had a choice between CO CO'S in the twilley center and Chuck E Cheese and decided since I had a fun time at the one across the bridge as a kid, I made the decision to take them there. It just really irritates me that they let these games get broken knowing kids will just move on to another game. It strikes my curiosity on how much these non working games actually generate without the entertainment provided to the customer. I am wondering if anyone else has had these concerns of maybe they just had an off day who knows, but I know next time I will being taking the kids elsewhere at least at CO CO'S if the game is broken no one can use it and it is a heck of alot cheaper. Thanks for all you do Joe. Chriso12385

I have taken my daughter there several times & it's always the same way. Machines are broken, kids are running wild & nobody cares. We have actually seen times when little kids were standing on the skee ball game dropping the balls in & nobody has said anything. I've seen little kids take money from other kids & ADULTS right out of their pockets. It's awful, unfortunetly my daughter enjoys going. I've found the best time to go is during the week.
at least at coco's they watch the kids, it's clean and locally owned!
I went to chuckee cheese about a week ago with one of my sons for our special day, and we were the only ones there. I found a few games that were out of order but nothing that would cause me to write about it. This is a place where kids go to play...it is their world, so things like games being broken is to be expected. I personally haven't had an issue with a few games being down while there but everyone is different.
I have to second anon 8:48. Every time I have taken my children to the Chuck E Cheese in Salisbury (which to be fair has only been 4 times), we run into the same exact issues.
In fairness to Chuck E Cheese they are not a daycare, therefore it is the parents responsibility to supervise their own children. I think many people forget that!
In every other Chuck E Cheese we have been in, if a game is broken and an adult brings it to an employees attention they will give you a replacement token and tape off the coin slot until someone can fix it.
Makes you wonder why someone would expend the time and energy to write a letter to this blog, but apparently not write one to the manager of said store and the corporate office?
Here's a true story that may be some impetus to direct your complaint to the right people in the future. I was unhappy with the customer service I was getting from a board agent working for U.S Air. I wrote a letter to the corporate office expressing my dismay. I received two roundtrip vouchers for any place U.S. Air flys for the bad experience. And no, I'm not a member of their VIP Club or whatever they may call their frequent flier club.
I stopped taking my nephew for the same reason. At least at Co Co's it's clean and the employees seem to care if the children are having a good time or not. I don't like going into places where the employees are more concerned about whats going on on the cellphone or listening to the ipod's. If I were their employer they wouldn't have a job.
This is sort of off topic, but if I the owner/manager of a business, rule #1 would be that cell phones remain at home or in an employees vehicle. If there's an emergency and someone needs to get a hold of an employee, they can call the business's phone. I've seen studies for lost production time for employees taking their smoke breaks, but I'm guess it's a lot more lost time for these employees that are constantly on their phone while working. I see it all the time.
Take your kids out into nature instead where they can get exercise. Some who stay inside too much turn into morbidly obese hate mongers who hate their self-image so much they resort to hurting others.
Soooooo..don't go there. I swear, people are dumb as stumps. Are you waiting for Joe to tell you what to do?
Coco's also encourages activity and exercise- the kids provide thier own entertainment! they dont stand still in front of a screen or game and veg out. At Coco's, they jump, run and bounce. My kids come out of CEC's amped up, they come out of Coco's tired but completely satisfied. They love being there at Closing time to tell the bounces good night!
Oh, and at CEC's they are constantly coming up to me and telling me "gimme" (coins, food, tickets, etc) Coco's? I barely see them, and then only to get a drink or Ice Cream to cool off so they can play some more. We only go to CEC when we have free token coupons.
Many companies encourage feedback so they can better their services. You should write them a nice letter explaining your bad experience at their store. Hopefully they will respond back to you thanking you for your input and that they will look into the situation. They might throw in some coupons so you will return. I find being nice to customer service they are more likely to help you out. No one wants to be yelled at when they personally didn't do anything.

Did you read what they asked?
" I am wondering if anyone else has had these concerns of maybe they just had an off day who knows"

While nature is good. There was a storm that came through Salisbury this weekend.

I think he told Joe what their next choice will be. Didn't you read?
It seems like every time I go to Chuck E. Cheeses it is the same problems such as this. Little heathens going around taking tickets from my kids and ghetto children jumping in taking the basket ball from my kids. These kids have no upbringing and no respect. The bathrooms are nasty and dirty, the female manager is flirting with one of the male employees, no one is cleaning the tables and the food is cold. If you complain they whisper to each other and stare at you. I went on a Tuesday night and it took 30 minutes to get the pizza order. The manager did nothing but make excuses as to why it took so long. The place isn't busy on Tuesdays. I also ordered a side of Buffalo Wings and they were so small I thought the came off of pigeons. It isn't just a one time experience it happens all the time. Why do I go back? My kids love the place, but I think it is time for a major overhaul.
anon 9:58 am yah thats a good idea but if you were out in "nature" when we went you would still be soaking wet thus the reason we went to chuck e cheese
OH and anon 10:05 it was for my friends kids birthday and the first time any of us went so before you jump to conclusions think your response through and no i dont want joe to tell me what to do that wasnt the reason for posting. If you read the bottom half before making a pig headed statement you would read " i just wanted to see if anyone else had the same experience."stop wasting valuable air!
Why is that picture of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie?
It is not Chuck E Cheese's job to watch children - that would be the parents job. But I believe the original post asked if anyone had experiences with the machines being broken and the answer is yes, it is always like that. I have called their coorperate office about it since we lost so much money one time - although the employees are usually willing to reimburse you the lost tokens it was still frustrating and my son was upset. They added more machines a while back but now it just seems like more to be broken. Not an off day I am afraid - a regular occurance!
Where do you ppl think this is? This is the eastern shore where things are done at a far slower pace. Broken machines are probably just the beginning. Why do I say this? At any given point at my workplace(large auto dealer on the shore) there are numerous things that are either broken or arent fully functioning. Management is notified and guess what, nothing happens. Eventually you start to ignore it and work around all the ignorance. The workforce on the shore needs to learn that there is no "I" in team.
you might consider a trip to the new kidspace center
not an arcade or moonbounce but lots of things to play in and on, considered an interactive learning center.
my daughter believes it was built for her
aww man i thought this was a story about how brad and angelina were spotted in salisbury.
no one cares about the machines at Chuck E. Cheese. Just talk to the manager or write a letter to corporate. Stirrin' the pot.
I like how you people make certain lies to get the employees in trouble. we do care about our guest. we make sure the guest leave happy. and we dont listen to ipods when were working. And we use the cell phones for calucating there tickets.
I work at a Chuck E Cheese, and each employee is assigned an area. If you tell someone at the cash regisster or in the party section that a game is broken, chances are they can't do anything about it. hey have either not been trained on how to fix games or are not allowed to leave their assigned area, or both. The tokens are supposed to be refunded, but that is the reason why you were not promply helped. As for the games being broken, it's just inevitable. With a ton of little kids running around jamming tokens and tickets into the games, and only one person to fix them, it is the fault of the customers, not the employees, that the games are out of order.
I don't recall ever b'n in such a place so I know nothing about such problems.
