Even in so-called "good years" the Downtown Marina has been a drain on the City’s coffers – in essence an amenity, partly funded by taxpayers for those who can afford (and desire) to keep a boat there. With the ongoing economic distress it has become an even greater public burden.
Now we are told that this year’s operating deficit will be much greater than budgeted, totaling about $65,000, so it will be necessary to kick in more funds to keep it afloat (no pun intended).
In order to do so, Pammie (a/k/a "piggybank") Oland recommends dipping into the remaining contingency fund for $30,000, leaving a balance of just $20,000 in that fund for the rest of the fiscal year – now does this sound familiar, or what?

I might be wrong but I thought Costal Properties was supposed to be managing the Salisbury City Marina. Is the contract written such that if the Marina comes up short the City has to chip in? If so, someone was asleap when that agreement was reached.
911, city assumes the losses. I caught that from Terry Cohen's comments before Louweasel gaveled her down.
Louweasel's idea of what's "on topic" is whatever she doesn't want the public to hear.
But if they close the marina where will they keep the million dollar fireboat that Gordo wants???
Remove the boat fueling and you can eliminate some staffing. The reality is this marina will never "make money". Reduce the services, keep it clean, and write it off annual expense as a cost of doing business for the city. The reality is government ends up providing many things they dont generate enough income to pay for themselves. This marina is one more of them.

Close up the Marina and build another half built condo, the seagulls love hanging out up in there. You think the docks look bad at least when it rains it washes some of the Gull poo off.
A couple of floors in that condo will be knee deep in Gull poo before that get working on it. It will be condemed as a biohazzard before it's ever completed.
Gordo will want to build a $3 million boathouse for his toy fireboat.
Close it down and use it for an educational school outting facility so the next generation will have greater understanding and sense of responsibility to land and the water. Something this administration seems to not care about. Turn something bad into something good, our country could use some of that right about now. If we could get a Mayor that cares about the water this be would be a great place for inner city canoe and kyac,(spl) rental and tourism spot. The river must be clean.
All it needs is to be managed correctly the first 5 years of operation it broke even or showed a profit which wasn't projected for at least ten years.
Its an Albatros for the city, so I say get rid of it now!!!
You have no choice but to keep it. It is a major attraction for investment. Granted, things are slow now but what will you tout for future condo buyers? Not crabs, not ice cream, not jobs...
