One Reader Challenges Chiefy Webster & Others On Crime

"i say its time to call to arms. i would bet there are enough angry men and women out there to initiate a war to take back our streets. it is time for corporal punishment. i say we begin our own drive-bys. load up your guns boys. drive down church st, lake st, smith st, isabella...you know all the areas. lean your head out the window, ask for some crack, if anyone acknowledges you, shoot them. simple as that. let that happen a half dozen times on each street and you won't have near as big a problem. sounds harsh, but so is armed robbery, and murder. these areas need curfews and they need to be enforced. these monkeys hangin on the corners are not planning an agenda to better your community. get rid of them.

so that's a knee jerk reaction. bottom line is crime is not un-defeatable. you have to FIGHT it. if we can't rely on politically correct manners, its time for a real CHANGE. not speeches. not press releases. ACTION.

i would love to see some armored vehicles, bullet proof gear, HEAVY arms and a deliberate sweep of high crime areas. the same way our armed forces patrol foreign high tensity war zones. if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time too bad.

ITS TIME TO MAN UP CHIEF. RALLY YOUR TROOPS AND LEAD THEM.

if you need someone on the front line with you ask Joe to post something and build a militia. there are PLENTY of brave men and women out there that would be willing to help curb the crime.

I WOULD BE THE FIRST."

I would gladly join a militia to fight crime so long as we get to shoot them before they shoot us! If this ever comes to pass I will gladly post my name too! They act like wild dogs and where I come from we shoot wild dogs!

I get sick to my stomach every time I hear that the jails are crowded and new ones need to be enlarged or built. If we would quit making life in jail so comfortable for criminals, they might think twice before doing crime. I say stack them up in jails if need be, and make them grow their own food...fruit, veggies, meat, etc. Put them to work like all us taxpayers have to work to provide for them. What is this country coming to anyway? And don't give them one red cent for working...make them earn their bed and board!! Lots of us out here are struggling to make ends meet and have all the worry that goes with it. What kind of worry do they have? Trying to figure out what crime they will commit as soon as they are released? Make it so bad that they'll never want to return, and then perhaps crime will decrease. It is really bad here on the Shore, and especially in Salisbury. Yep, I think we responsible taxpayers should carry and help protect ourselves and innocent people.

yes, let's just resort to mass chaos.... that will solve everything. you frighten me.

How about if we just start with a new Police Chief that can inspire and rally his men and woman officers. Then elect a Mayor and a counsel that will give the officers the resources to stop all this thug thieving and killing. You just randomly start shooting people and your no better than the Thugs.

We baby them and feed them; why should they bother looking for a job.

Here's a challenge, if ya'll are serious about demanding Barrie and Webster address crime--show up en masse at the City Council meeting next Monday night and speak your comments directly to them. Walk in the door, put your name on the sign-in sheet and stand up at the Public Comment section--show up in numbers and don't let Louweasle shut you down.

If you don't do that, I say you who lash out here with demands are, in reality, the biggest whimps of all.

How 'bout a rally on the sidewalk before the meeting begins, too?

Man Up/Show Up.

2. i'm all for a new approach including a new administration. the purpose of my post is to try to convey just how fed up i am with Salisbury and crime.

3. I don't expect anyone reading this post will venture out tonight and do anything drastic. i would offer that the time has come for SOMETHING to change however.

4. also, no one is saying that we need to "randomly" shoot anyone. bottom line is that the thugs aren't afraid of the police. perhaps they WOULD be AFRAID of someone who shoots first and asks questions later.

5. to all you bleeding hearts out there...get mugged, carjacked or robbed, or heaven forbid your child savagely murdered and see who "scares" you then.

Here are some interesting stats. taken from a article called "Race, Crime and Justice in America"

The Color
of
Crime
New Century Foundation
Oakton, VA 22124

Second, Expanded Edition

Major Findings
• Police and the justice system are not biased against minorities.

Crime Rates
• Blacks are seven times more likely than people of other races to commit murder,
and eight times more likely to commit robbery.
• When blacks commit crimes of violence, they are nearly three times more likely
than non-blacks to use a gun, and more than twice as likely to use a knife.
• Hispanics commit violent crimes at roughly three times the white rate, and
Asians commit violent crimes at about one quarter the white rate.
• The single best indicator of violent crime levels in an area is the percentage of
the population that is black and Hispanic.

Interracial Crime
• Of the nearly 770,000 violent interracial crimes committed every year involving
blacks and whites, blacks commit 85 percent and whites commit 15 percent.
• Blacks commit more violent crime against whites than against blacks. Fortyfive
percent of their victims are white, 43 percent are black, and 10 percent are
Hispanic. When whites commit violent crime, only three percent of their victims are
black.
• Blacks are an estimated 39 times more likely to commit a violent crime against
a white than vice versa, and 136 times more likely to commit robbery.
• Blacks are 2.25 times more likely to commit officially-designated hate crimes
against whites than vice versa.

Gangs
• Only 10 percent of youth gang members are white.
• Hispanics are 19 times more likely than whites to be members of youth gangs.
Blacks are 15 times more likely, and Asians are nine times more likely.

Incarceration
• Between 1980 and 2003 the US incarceration rate more than tripled, from 139
to 482 per 100,000, and the number of prisoners increased from 320,000 to 1.39
million.
• Blacks are seven times more likely to be in prison than whites. Hispanics are
three times more likely.

FYI, since the topic was being discussed.

Hire more cops so they are not going call to call, detectives have 40 to 50 active cases, a low clearance rate, anyone would with that many cases, then the street guys can follow up on the minor cases and lighten the overwhelming load on the detectives.
Combine the city into the sheriff's office and make them all work together for a change. Don't get me wrong the guys on the street want to work together but the city's admin does not like it.
Remember you get what you pay for, even in public service.

http://www.homesurfer.com/crimereports/view/crime_report.cfm?state=MD&area=Salisbury

Salisbury, Maryland is in the 100% percentile rank in the state for Violent Crime. It is in the 99% percentile rank nationally. Lower numbers are better. In this case, 100% of cities in Maryland have crime rates equal to or lower than Salisbury, or said another way, 0% of cities in Maryland have crime rates higher than Salisbury.

If you really want to stir up the Mayor and the other elected officials at the next meeting, try this:

"I would like to see a vote of no confidence for Police Chief Webster. Any elected official willing to make the motion to bring it to a vote?"
Majority vote in favor means he is terminated....period.

See if anyone makes the motion.

Bet they won't, but then they will know you are serious.

If any of the elected officials really had balls, one of them would do it BEFORE a citizen present at the meeting called for it.

You other losers that love to call everyone interested in preserving this democracy as "rednecks" will undoubtedly be the first to slither into your holes when the bullets start flying.

History is replete with everyday Americans whom take a stand and lay it all on the line to defend this Republic.

History is also replete with everyday Americans that couldn't or wouldn't fight for anything.

I don't know what everyone is so upset about--Gary Comegys and Muir Boda think everything is ok! You must all be focusing on the negative rather than how super everything is in the city. So you cannot go out at night, and so a few citizens here and there get shot, and so maybe even if you stay home you might be the victim of a home invasion. Gary and Muir think that isn't really such a big deal! They think a simple neighborhood watch is the answer, and there is nothing else the city can do with your tax dollars to help protect you. Honest to goodness, anyone who votes for those two morons might as well hand the keys of the cty over to the criminals and the landlords while the rest of us move out. The landlords can rent to the criminals.

I find it very interesting people want to call someone a "Redneck" That points out the obvious. Crime in America is documented by stats and the U.C.R. I base my observations on what I see here. I cant say what is happening in L.A. or Kalamazoo, but here in the Bury it is thug central and getting worse. Who knows maybe some of those battered kids at the DRILL are out there shooting 69 year old men for twenty bucks. Waldo needs to get his troops fired up. I dont know about you but I see the City residents are getting tired of the same old story.

1. The city slipped when it went to 12 hour shifts. The officers are exhausted I dont care what you say I see enough of them sleeping on night shifts. It is to long a day after court and trying to maintain a family. Go to a more productive schedule.

2. get some of th fluff out of the office for a while.

3. Go back to foot patrols in troubled areas.

4. The leadership needs to support the troops. This may be to late you can only whip the horse so long before it breaks down.

5. Stop acting like you are still in Internal Affiars in B-County. Show the guys you do support them.

6. Give them the resources to fight the battle. It is a war out there and we are losing.

PROACTIVE not Uniformed thugs that are no better that the dung you are after. We all lose when you cross the line. You know who you are.

maybe a little team work between agencies.

It like soap and water its cheap and you clean the dirt up. The fight really can be fought without a ton of spending non of us can afford. The right leadership and the right soldiers can get it done. A pair of cuffs, a badge, and a gun and some freakin heart!!!

It is known fact that criminals will set up shop where there "appears" to be no police presence.

Not just in Salisbury, but in Delmar too!

To Anon 7:07 pm

Alot of the landlords in the city ALREADY rent to the criminals.
Do you think responsible HOME OWNERS would be out committing these crimes?
I am 52 years old and when I was growing up in Salisbury 70 percent of the homes were owner occupied and could go to sleep at night and not lock the your house doors. Now 70 percent of the homes are rentals and crime is rampant, so yes I believe rental properties have nearly destroyed this city.

Anonymous said...

Let's talk. First and foremost, the right of self defense is an individual right. No one can do it for us nor should they be expected to. Not the police. Not the teachers in our schools. The Constitution does NOT give us our rights, it merely recognizes those that were given to us by GOD. Our right to defend ourselves is one of those GOD given rights and no one has the right to take it away. It is inalienable (see Declaration of Independence). The mere fact that any form of Govt. took away our right to keep and bear arms is a clear indication that they are standing in the way of our right to defend ourselves and that cannot be tolerated. This is evidenced every time an honest, law abiding, unarmed citizen is attacked by some thug. Each time a law abiding citizen is found in possession of a firearm, regardless of the location, and is charged with a crime, is evidence that the Govt. is in the process of systematically stripping us of our rights to defend ourselves. I carry. I will always carry. I refuse to be a victim created by our govt. Know that when you are in the process of being robbed at gunpoint or knife point, you are very likely to be shot or stabbed regardless of whether or not your comply with the demands of the bad guy. You are like a cowardly sheep about to be slaughtered. Who will care for your family? Who will raise your kids? Will the govt. do it? Is that what you want?

Second, a militia isn't set up for the purpose of travelling our neighborhoods in vehicles with the purpose of ferreting out criminals and administering street justice then and there. A militia is set up to uphold the Constitution of the United States. It's set up to defend our nation and our people from enemies, foriegn and domestic. When I say domestic, that includes a tyrant govt. that serves to oppress its citizens and turn them into subjects by stripping us of GOD given rights. Many states have a regulated militia. Michigan is perhaps the best example where almost every county has one. It has been determined that the Army and the National Guard do NOT qualify as a militia because they are regulated BY the govt. and offer no protection against a tyrant govt. They support the govt. The well regulated militia of which the second amendment spoke is comprised of the PEOPLE. We have an obligation to ourselves and our children to exercise that right......but only to carry out the objectives listed above. We cannot be vigilante's. That would be considered anarchy. None of us wants that.

I would urge you all to take a firearms safety course. To learn safe shooting skills. To practice "shoot - don't shoot" exercises and develope those skills because you will be held accountable if you defend yourself and you injure an innocent person. With freedom comes responsibility. I would urge you all to carry a concealed firearm for the purposes of self defense regardless of laws created unconstitutionally by those who would have us be dead victims rather than armed citizens. A state legislature does not have the authority take away rights given by GOD and recognized by our Constitution, yet we have stood by and let it happen. Look at the results. I would further urge everyone to write or call your representatives and express your feelings about the GOD given right of self defense and your desire to eliminate the current laws that turn law abiding citizens with the desire to defend themselves into criminals by forbidding them to carry firearms for defense purposes.

Support a local militia but ONLY for the purposes of defending your Constitution and your Country. Someone stand up NOW and form one right here in Maryland. I think you would be surprised how much support you would get and how fast it would grow. Better not wait. Time is of the essence!

7:15 As someone that worked a myriad of patrol schedules, including rotating all three shifts while working 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 (10 hour shifts), a 7-1,7-1,7-5 (9 hour shifts), and a permanent shift of 3-2, 2-3, 3-3 (12 hour shift with every other Friday, Saturday and Sunday off) the 12 hour shift was the overwhelming choice of the patrol officers I worked with, and it was by far the less physically and mentally taxing of any schedule I worked.

No matter what the shift, patrol officers will always "crawl into the hole" after 0400 hours while working a midnight shift. Of course it's a little harder now with the more progressive departments having GPS systems on the patrol cars. Dispatch always knows where you are and how long the car has been sitting in one location.

As for allocating resources, I've said it before and I'll say it until I die, these counties with all these municipal police departments do a disservice to the citizens living in that county. There needs to be one police agency (a county police force) in a county responsible for the law enforcement efforts in that county.

I have to chime in on this. I seen a lot of comments referring to police as the problem, which in most cases is not the fact. The majority of police officers are in it because they do give a damn, of course there are always exceptions to that.

The judicial system is the major malfunction that needs an immediate overhaul. Judges who think they are god and can determine that someone should skate on a murder or armed robbery charge only because they "think" it is the right call need to be thrown out on their butts, preferably in the middle of the ghetto neighborhoods!

The mayor and chief who refuse to admit the obvious should also be thrown out...of a moving train; oh wait getting off topic there. The point is don't hold the police officers totally accountable because they are typically not the ones who are failing, the ones up the chain of command are. I personally had an incident recently that left me telling many officers I will never call them if my families safety is in jeopardy, not until I am sure we are no longer in fear that is. It wasn't the officers lack of concern or investigation that led me to feel this way, it was the judicial system that allowed a child rapist to walk away with little more than a lecture. It is outright injustice to the victims and in fact it is victimizing them again.

Let's all think about that for a moment, a child molester and rapist could possibly be living right next door to you, but you wouldn't know it because juveniles are not required in the state of Maryland to register as sex offenders. That's a little scary isn't it? To think any friend your child may bring home or could be going to the mall with or to the movies is a convicted rapist but you as a parent have no right to know according to Maryland laws. You know what is even worse than that? Knowing a juvenile who has molested and raped but not being "allowed" to inform any one because I would be violating his rights!!! What kind of system is it we are supposed to abide by when the system is more concerned with protecting the violators than with serving justice on the behalf of the victims? Judges especially in certain mid and lower shore counties are a joke and should be at best flipping burgers at McDonalds.

Better yet just razor wire fence in those areas and let them kill each other and we won't have to worry about doing it and being judged by the blind so called leaders of the city.

While I live in the county, it's all gotten out of control. Mike Lewis, with the help of CrimeSolvers was RIGHT ON the Anitra Pirkle's case, solved it, apprehended the suspects and DID THE JOB!

However, within Salisbury, where I work, and within a mile in either direction of the last two incidents, Sat. and Sun. nights, I'm freaked. We've already had incidents in our parking lot and that's bad too.

Chief Webster needs to MAN UP and get on the ball and protect the citizens he swore to protect. The Mayor, well, hopefully will be replaced soon enough and I'm hoping it's someone with credibility, integrity, and who WILL benefit the town AND the entire county.

7:03 PM

This program is a freaking joke. The only thing Reserve Officers can do is paper work and direct traffic.

If you do your research you will see that reserve officers in other jurictions across the country are allowed to carry weapons and act as a fully sworn officer and patrol on their own. Why can't can't the Salisbury Police Department or the Wicomico Sheriff's Office allow this? Because this area doesn't like volunteers. They want the tax payers to pay for everything. That's what happens when you live in a democrat controlled state.

Check out this link for the Portsmouth Virginia Police Department just down the road from us. Joe, this would be a good topic to run in the near future. There are people that want to volunteer and this would put more officers on the road and save thousands in tax dollars.

It's a bit difficult for a chief to come into a department, tell the troops how proud he is of them and the department, and convince them they should be too, if he never wears the uniform. A chief that retired from another agency, and then refuses to ever wear the uniform of the department he now leads is, in essence, telling the officers of that department that wearing the uniform, their uniform, would be a step down from the one he previously wore. It sends a message that I'll lead you, but I'm really not one of you. What comes from his mouth are hollow, meaningless words to the ears of the rank and file. Webster committed a mortal sin by never wearing a Salisbury Police Department uniform. It shows me he just doesn't get it.

As for the FOP holding a no confidence vote? Too late in the game for that. In all liklihood, Webster will be replaced after the elections. If he isn't replaced when a new mayor comes on board, the president and board of the FOP should have a meeting with the mayor, outline their concerns about Webster, and inform the new mayor that they don't want to piss on his parade, but if a new chief isn't appointed, bad press from within the police department will be the first thing served on his plate. Then a no confidence vote is in order.

the judicial system is the problem, it's like going on vacation to thugs....they get FAR MORE in prison than they could ever get on the outside...and they dont have to do anything for it....when they get out they do crime sprees again till caught.....then back to vacation land!

It's not prison, it's FREE TOWN....EASY STREET. 3 square meals {not food lion brand either} medical, college educations, computer access, cable w/ flat screen tv's, library, gym, heat/ac, hot showers, clean cloths {someone else does their laundry} Drugs are easily available inside! social time everyday!

I've worked hard all my life, never been charged or convicted of a crime and I dont have half of these things! Perhaps if I become ill or near retirement....I should take them up on this deal! Wouldnt life be grand not to have to worry about paying all the bills just to get by....

About 15 year ago WBOC done an interview with ECI, facts showed it cost $42,000. a year/per inmate{was this cost average of prisons?}. I was raising my family of 4 on $28,000. a yr. Wonder what that cost is today...$62-$72 thousand per/inmate? I distinctly remember the view of the ECI pantry....tons of high end groceries and snacks {Pringles instead of food lion brands....why chips at all???} I remember once or twice a year, every year, they purchased subs from a sub shop here in Salisbury...hundreds of subs made to order for every inmate.

Our government is the real criminal

The no-nonsense sheriff in Arizona was told he had to allow cable TV in his prison. His solution is to offer the weather channel and the Disney channel. I'm sure if he had to offer computers, many sites would be blocked and only educational sites would be available. He provides balanced meals but no frills at all.

Well it would be nice for the man to at least wear the uniform he alledegly represetnts, not just a necktie and a badge on his belt. Hell Ican get a badge at the dollar store and wear it on my beeelt, does that make me a chefiy too?

Have you ever seen him in uniform? I have, trust me he looks a whole lot better in a suit. We all laughed when we first saw hi, I think that is why he hasn't worn it since.

Ask any officer/deputy/trooper that has been here a few years can answer your question. What was said is true and then some.

What the he!! is a "no confidence vote"? It's some term some officer came up with somewhere that amounts to a hill of beans! It does not carry any weight, it tells the person what he already knows (nobody likes him) and simply wastes time. It's like community policing, a bunch of people throw out the term, but no one really knows what it means! If you ask 10 people what community policing is, I bet you would get 10 different answers. It was a term created for politicians!

Webster, fire more of your good officers and make other great officers retire. Take that badge off, you are no brother to us. Hand out more awards to the officers who kiss you butt. That was a slap in the face to the good officers who do PROACTIVE police work. You are not wanted in Salisbury!
