Twas the Night Before Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.
Santa
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads.
And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.

Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tinny reindeer.

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!

"Now Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! On, Cupid! on, on Donner and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky.
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of Toys, and St Nicholas too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
A bundle of Toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack.

His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow.

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly!

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself!
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose!
Santa and his reindeer
He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"

First, I am not anti-Christian. I consider myself a follower of and believer in Jesus, but I believe Jesus would be most dis-pleased with "Christmas." If you think he threw a fit with the money changers in the temple, and he did, you wouldn't want to be around when he saw "Christmas Trees & Santa Claus. They are things used to get well meaning but ignorant Christians to participate in to mock Jesus, God and the Bible. Nowhere does the Bible tell us to celebrate Christmas with trees and Santa Claus, but God DOES tell us in Jeremiah, 10, to "not take up the ways of the heathen, for they cut down trees with an ax and nail them to boards making them stand up straight and bring them into their houses and deck them with silver and gold." (paraphrased) Pretty clear no- no, huh? So, we in our false wisdom and disobedience, adopt the heathen practice described in Jeremiah and defile Jesus' birth with it! Go figure. And then we are taught to unwittingly mock God as little children with Santa Claus. In the "harmless myth" he dresses in red, like Satan is often depicted. He comes into our houses through the soot and brimstone of the chimney and right into the FIREplace. If the imagery isn't clear enough, Santa Claus? What kind of name is that? Santa Claus is an anagram for.....Satan Lucas, Lucas, of course being the Latin root for Lucifer....So, Jesus would be quite unhappy with how easily good hearted, well meaning people are led to mock him, like the lady being outraged because the donuts didn't have sprinkles. What a jerk, boycotting people because they do as God instructed, while she, no doubt, unwittingly mocks God and Jesus by having tree decorated in her house as Prohibited by God in the Bible, and, get this, IN THEIR HONOR!
Maybe Jesus will calm down before we mock him at the heathen festival at the Spring Equinox. We even named it after the heathen Moon Goddess, Ester, and threw in the heathen symbols of Spring fertility and rebirth with bunnies and chicks and Easter eggs! That's why Easter doesn't fall on a certain date every year; it follows the pagan tradition of honoring the Moon Goddess, Ester, by waiting till the Sunday following the first full moon on or after the Spring Equinox! Again Jesus and the Father would not be pleased at the way we carry on the traditions of the heathen and say we are doing it in their name when they expressly prohibitted doing so in the Bible.
Honor God and Jesus in "spirit and in truth," not with heathen, pagan traditions!
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a GOOD NIGHT.

8:51, Your name, "anonymous". Can I break this down to "anal" and "moose(IQ)"? Or are you afraid to give us your real name? If you are as proud of your beliefs as I am, you would be glad to at least give us your blogname. F.U. in the nastiest way.

Sorry, I made a comment before I even finished reading the whole post! Silly me. Now that I've finished reading it to the end, let me say F.U. Polly Markis. Enjoy your lump of coal while my children celebrate Jesus' birthday and grow to become Santas themselves; giving of themselves in order to experience the joy of giving to their fellows.
Satan is not in sight this evening.

I for one can feel ya Polly. But remember satin was very rehersed in the bible and twist its true meaning by taking parts out of context to better himself.

Come on back, God still loves you.

8:51...Polly, if that is truly your name. If you are a true Christian, why come on this forum and attack those of us who celebrate "our way"?? You are one reason why people stay away from church and religion. Get off this forum and READ your BIBLE! Judge not; lest you be judged!

Polly is largely right, but sadly, these pagan traditions have helped keep the birth of Christ in the forefront for a good portion of these 2000+ years. If not for the gift giving and celebration during this season, Christ's birth might be relegated to quiet meditation by just a few of his most dedicated believers and the news of his birth would not be heralded as it is. I would be the first to say boycott all this gift giving/commercialization and see how long it would take all the retailers to begin wishing Christians "Merry Christmas" again, but the politically correct attempts by some to keep Christ out of Christmas only serves, to their chagrin, to give even more credence to his birth. Happy Birthday, Jesus.

A Believer.

LMAO, Barry G., my thoughts exactly, you took the words from me!! The only thing left for me to say is MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!

I believe in God and his son Jesus. Happy birthday Jesus. I do have a tree and we do santa clause but my children do know the real meaning of the holiday for without Jesus it wouldn't happen. Its all about Christ but have fun with it as long as its centered around him you can do what ever you think is fun. Children learn from what they live...teach Christ, love and giving and if it takes a tree and santa to teach that then i'm all for it. Good things come from the samllest of things sometimes. Polly Merry Christmas to you but you should lighten up for God is in control and he uses things and people to get his points and wonders across. If it were not for the way we celebrate Christs birthday it may have been done away with many years ago, because of our traditions his birthday is not forgotten. He LIVES. HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESUS Read Luke 2

Barry G.
With your vulgar language and refusal to accept the word of God as to not adopting the ways of the heathen, I'm sure Jesus is glad that you aren't a Christian and hopes for your redemption. You really should stop saying you are a Christian while directly going against the plainly writted word of God. What don't you believe about Jeremiah where God commands that we not adopt the ways of the heathen? Are you just stupid or just don't care about what God directs?
Anyway, I forgive you and will pray for you in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
If Jesus, himself, told you to drop the heathen practices, would you call him names and crucify him again? Well, God did tell us as quoted in Jeremiah, so you are not just cursing me. You are cursing God & making a mockery of the birth of his son. I only pointed out the scripture.

Polly Markis is absolutely, right! It is a shame the way we apply heathen practices to the birth and resurection of Jesus. Those events are the most magnificent history. It is not reasonable to think they would have been forgotten if not propped up and sullied with pagan traditions.
The birth, death & resurection of Jesus stand on their own as supreme gifts of God! To add heathen practices is blasphemy as stated in the Bible!
Barry G. with his defiance of the Bible and condemnation of someone who really believes and follows the Bible, evinces a truely vile person, who has nothing of the spirit of Christ.
God bless you Polly Markis for showing understanding and the true spirit of Christ by having the courage to believe and follow the word of God. But it should be no surprise that the ignorant masses will crucify you. They did no less to Christ, himself, for telling them the truth.

I only hope that if you are quote old testement and try to live by it. that you dont pick and choose whats parts suit you. That to is sin. We dont bend scripture to suit our needs or our beliefs. For one to think that just owning a computer or a wife who spends to much should be taken to the river and stoned. You see the true meaniong of Christ is to love thy brother as i would love thyself. I dont like the commercialism of the holiday, but i truly dont follow the reasoning behinf tree basher. I would live to see only replantable trees used or fake. As for the death of Christ. I believe the Jews were responsible for that, do your home work. The Jews are strong in their faith and they have the menorah. So everybody chill out and enjoy the intent of the actual post it was great and filled with what most of us recall from our childhood memory. I love Christmas all the way around. So those of you cursing someones right to disagree with how "you" spend Christmas. ITS CHRISTMAS EASE UP LOL. GO OPEN SOME PRESENTS CALL SOME FAMILY. THE REST GO TO CHURCH BREAK SOME BREAD LIGHT A CANDLE BUT GIVE EACHOTHER A BREAK. LOVE SANTA

I believe that God uses the devils work against him. So if you somehow construe Santa into satan, which I don't, then maybe this could be the explanation for the pagan side of the celebration.

11:26,
Greetings in the name of our savior, Jesus Christ. I'm not the basher of Christmas trees, God is! I simply pointed out God's instruction, and was nearly boiled in cyber oil for doing so!
I didn't know that there was ever any question that the Jews were responsible for crucifying Jesus.
The Romans found no "no fault" with him and wanted to grant him freedom, but the Jews demanded that he be crucified and instead freed a known criminal by saying, "give us Barabas."
The Jews are waiting for the Messiah...Christians believe Jesus was the Messiah and will return...Soon we will all know the truth.
I don't just dislike the commercialization of Christmas & Easter. I abhor and truly belive God abhors the pagan/heathen traditions we have attached to the these holy times.
Mr. Littleton, thanks for your support and understanding of the Bible and the importance of keeping the name of Jesus hole and free of pagan traditions. I'm a single Christian lady. Are you available? You or anyone including Barry G maycontact me at pollymarkis@comcast.net I also like the way Reese Bobby writes and wonder if he is available.

Polly, MERRY CHRISTMAS to you. I tip my hat to you for speaking your mind and defending what YOU believe in. My hope is that everyone learns this year how to be more respectable and treat comments as healthy debate rather than attacks. This is sometimes very difficult for me to control since I see most every comment coming through and the Bronx comes out of me. Nevertheless, it's even more important that others realize that YOU not only use your name, you have gone so far as offering your personal e-mail address for others to contact you. There isn't a man here that I recall doing the same and that should tel everyone quite a bit about who you truly are. Once again, a woman has set the example as well as the bar for others to live up to. Congratulations Polly and thank you. Joe

All I can say is WOW...

I posted this yesterday in hopes that maybe, just maybe some of the people who read this blog, maybe might, just may have close friends, family and little children around.

We read this to my young son and he absolutely loved it. I was thinking of Joe's precious grandson Gavin, having this delightful story read to him.

Never in my wildest imagination (and its wild) did I ever think that posting 'Twas the night before Christmas' would spark a debate with more hate and venom than ALL of the political discourse on this board for the past month.

God is Love!

Don't you get it?

All 614 (or 644) laws of Moses were nailed to the Cross on Good Friday.

Saint Nicholas was Cannonized by the leader of the Church that was founded and established by Jesus Christ himself.

There is and was no harm or ill will intended towards anyone of any race, creed, color or religious belief in the posting of this story.

This was for the Children who maybe, might maybe be near to an adult who normally rants and raves about what they read on this blog.

This was intended as something nice for Christmas eve to be shared with the young and young at heart.

Polly, God does not Love me more than He Loves you.

God did not send his only begotten Son to be the sacrificial Lamb for the Church folks, you described how He felt about them in the story of Jesus in the Courtyard of the Temple.

God sent His Son to Redeem the sinners, the whoremongers, the worshippers of Baal, because the folks with religion already "knew it all" and did not need anyone to tell them any different.

If you want to send a message of Salvation, send it with Love.

God is Love and this is a Joyous time that we have chosen to use to remind us that there is no greater Love than He that will give his life for his brother.

Mr. Albero,
Thank you for your generous words, but to be honest, it was you who set the example and the bar by giving your e-mail, phone number and name from day ONE. There are lots of blog owners out there who don't. Your blog is informative and entertaining and the comments are very interesting & entertaining, even when they get a little hostile.
My Christian brothers and sisters are angry with me right now. I guess I understand because I used to feel the same way when I was shown the truth about the pagan traditions being applied to Jesus' HOLY birth & the resurection. I was angry as, well, hell! "How dare you attack Christmas trees, Santa, and Easter," I cursed at them, much like Barry G. cursed me. I thought those who showed me the truth that pagan rituals were contrary to God, Bible and Jesus were evil and insane! It took me years of Bible study and prayer to come to the undertsanding that these things are an abomination, not to me, but to God. But I also know that this is MY understanding and that God is the only real judge. So, I retire from writing with thanks & reverence to God & his son, Jesus, and with wishes for God's blessings to ALL!
Thanks, again,
Polly Markis

Hey Polly,
This is the Easter Bunny.

You are a twit! Our pagan holidays and traditions are based on mother earth & the things in the universe that affect her. So lets get one thing straight. It is YOUR christian fantasies that have "sullied" our pagan traditions not the other way around as you mope about! Our pagan traditions based on nature are the only things that are real in your silly religion. Now decorate a tree and shut up!
