"Davis did not prosecute this case; he did spend hours preparing it. It was forwarded to Talbot County per a judge’s decision to forward it to another county based on the chance that this county jury pool would not be fair. So, Talbot County SA's presented this case not Davis. Davis was an observer in the court room just as any other Wicomico county tax payer would be.
Don't forget to add the benefits Ray gained from having the extra money at his disposal, the interest gained, the opportunities gained, the interest and opportunities lost by the county for not having the money.
Also this state is very liberal in seizing property, and it just got harder, that is something that the Attorney General’s office and all the elected officials should get a phone call/e-mail about. This state is a hard state to fight crime in, so many rights the criminal has.
Ray will be on work release so that means as long as he can justify his hours, he can stay out 2/3 of the day and the weekend. So he will show up, go to sleep, get up and go to work. Just like a hotel, on the weekend he gets to watch TV play games & work out.
So let’s do the math: 6 months starting Dec 29th to June 29th = 182 days. There are 26 weekends in that time that he will serve 24 hours a day. There are 156 days that he will only be there 8 hours a day to sleep. So, 26 x 48 hours = 1248 hours then add 156 days at 8 hours = 1248 hours. Then add them together 2496 hours divided by 24 hours in a day = 104 days. So, Ray got 104 days in jail, the whole time still benefiting his business, benefitting his personal life, eating where he wants, seeing the people he wants, managing his life pretty close to normal. Just has to go sleep locked up, who cares he is sleeping. So that is the real jail sentence he received. That is also not subtracting days off for good behavior, so that could lessen it a months time.
Call your representatives, the attorney general and get the laws changed so we can seize the benefits of crime. Only you can change it by getting it on the list."

Good ole Maryland. Tax hell, and let the criminals run rampant.
I would have enjoyed being able to attend the Lewis trial but I would have had to use a days vacation in order to do that. Since Ruark was only an observer I trust that he used a personal day in order to attend. From your post I see no official reason for him to have been there. If he did not I guess this was just another example of wasted tax payers dollars Huh?
Which judge heard that case?
I guess they could give him a work release job at the dump/landfill !!!
We have the best Sheriff in the country and this is the thanks he gets. Mike Lewis will continue to take people like this down only to see them walk with a slap on the wrist. The court system in this county is a joke, so now we know it's a joke in Talbot county also.
Not a bad christmas gift.
Do not forget that he will be getting time off of his sentence for Good Behavior(5 days per month) and double bunking (5 days per month. In addition, he can earn extra days off for doing things around the jail and community service projects (up to 5 days per month). Looks like he will only be serving about four months at the most, three months at the least.
from what i remembers he also automatically gets "good Time" like 2 or 3 days off a month.
lewis will get get approx. 5 days good time. The remaining 5 months he will earn 15 days each month.total of 80 days off his sentence. CRIME PAYS
When an inmate is on work release, he has can only be out 9 hours a day on weekdays and 8 hours on Saturday. He has to report to a specific job with a supervisor, if he leaves for any reason, (ie: get lunch, pick up supplies) he is suppost to call the Lt at the jail and notify him. I have a person who works for me that is on work release, he got 10 months for his second DUI (no accident, just dumb luck getting stopped, that god he didn't involve anybody)But my point is...work release is usually not a day out of jail to do as you please, but I guess it sounds like Lewis must have friends somewhere so who knows what special treats he will get. Also they are not suppose to be able to go to work on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve, or New Years Day.
Yea, but just think of all the people in wicomico county that he ripped off. He's really going to have to watch his back. At least he'll be guarded in jail nights while he's sleeping while serving his jail time. Just remember he'll probably want to sleep with one eye open when he gets out! What goes around comes around, ray!
One word says it all: UNBELIEVABLE!!
I just heard on huckaby that it cost more to house a criminal for one year than the cost of tuition and housing for collage for one year. I guess it would be cheaper to sentence criminals to a year in college than jail. Now what law do I have to break to get my masters degree? Hmmmm.
I think this was a great sentence. HA HA HA
I don't think it's the days Ray Ray should worry about. Then again he might enjoy the nights.
Had he been caught running drugs, he would have gotten more jail time,AND had pretty much all his stuff taken away...but he can conspire to rob the county and make a fortune selling said stolen property and not only does he get a light jail sentence, but he gets to keep all his sh*t? You can be sure he has some money or property stashed away that he purchased with the proceeds of his illegal enterprise. Mike Lewis should have been able to seize more property than a nasty old box truck out of all his hard work.
I don't have issues with the way the judge handled this, my issue would be with all the others who were involved such as the contractors that Paul gave names to the authorities, "the out of state contractor who stole 3 times what Ray did" he must be sitting back laughing at us all. It was shown that Ray had received less than $70,000 in goods and they made him pay $150,000,who is going to reimbuse the balance of $450,000? Why is Rick Pollitt not bringing all of this out? I hope that this is coming, if not THAT is when taxpayers should be upset....not now you may think Ray got a light sentence but he did have to pay out twice what he stole, who is going to payback the rest of it? Don't be down on Davis Ruark in this case, he's done a good job for us but he is nothing but Rick Pollitt's puppet. Mike Lewis flubbed the federal investigation, most ARE aware of this, had he not tried to make another notch in his belt by making an early arrest this case could have been handled more professionally. I just think the department had been so corrupt for many, many years and our officials do not know how to control it. Who has the answers? You can get mad about what has happened, do something to help it...contact your county councilpeople with suggestions, NOT opinions and anger.
Why don't you check out the Gay Hommel (Wilgus) case scheduled for 1/16/09? A reminder, this is the woman that stole from Wicomico County serving as Jury Commissioner. She had work release also, her dad picked her up from the jail, took her back to his house, she got a nice shower, fixed her hair and make up. She put most of the valuables in her daughter's name so she was able to keep most of what she profitted from with the county's money. A lot more to be said about this case but I think she feels she is above making her own money and being able to take whatever she wants.
I've always been white all my life, but I can't help but wonder what would have happened if they were all black?
Saw this criminal at Station 7 Friday night, drinking it up with his buddies. Celebrating his short sentence and acting up just like usual. His buddies were trying to get him a girlfriend before he went to prison.
I hope someone make him their #itch, on his weekends on lock-up.
Be thankfull that Lewis got any punishment at all. If Ray Lewis and the landfill mob had been operating at the Somerset County Landfill, they may have never been charged at all. The County Commissioners may have even rehired them all for Dog Control like they did there former Warden.
Let's see what I get out of this. How much money did the county get back fom Towsend. Were did Sharma go. Sounds like alott of escape goats to me! I won't hide, my name is Dennis Lee White Sr. I'm sure people have nothingg better to do than try to find dirt on me now. Help yourself! Yes I know Ray, he has made a big mistake, like the others, his life has changed and hopefully realizes why. But where are the ones that let this happen to our money, oopps, forgot, got retirement just as this happened. There are alot more behind this, would be my thought, but lets cutt it off while we can. Whatt would I know, I'm a tax payer like everyone else, however, I get stopped for a dui, and my job is gone like the rest of us. I steal from thr county, and I should do time and pay the money back. Looks like only one is paying back most of it. He happens to be the one who payed money to county employees for them to steal it from the county and put in there pockets. Don't take this wrong Joe, I read your blog all the time, but let's be right here, we all do things that not everybody would agree on, that's what makes this interesting, so we should all keep open minds and look at everthing as the way it is and nott close our minds to the other things that are possible
Some businessmen know how to work the system. They involve the top man in the crime. We know that he will never be charged or convicted. One of them resigned immediately. They had to give Ray a big break so that he would not squeal on the higher-ups. Ray made enough to keep silent. And so life goes on in good ole Wicomico County.
I must agree with Mr. White, and also anom.11:05p.m People have a bad habit of closing their minds to all of the facts, and surroundings. The suggestion here is that none of the other facts make Ray any less guilty. But it's obvious that Ray gotta good toss to not implicate the others who ALLOWED him to steal. It's not that difficult to understand. Yeah sat. morning "resignation." right. and that's not all. Wake up, folks. Wake up. And don't forget, - Davis Ruark just made a "terrible error in judgement" when he drove drunk with a loaded weapon. It's okay. He's better now.
