Legislative business or Grandstanding?
As a regular at the city council meetings, I have noticed more and more time being taken for awards and recognition which usually the Mayor presents. I absolutely support these people and their dedication and service that earns them these awards, but do we need to take time away from the televised legislative session for them? I believe a quarterly awards ceremony would be a fantastic solution to this problem, and would alleviate the feeling that the Mayor uses them for her own political gain.

It might also allow more time for questions and deliberation by council. A quarterly ceremony could be held during the lunch hour on the front steps of the city/county building and maybe it could even include both city and county awayds.
I have noticed this as well when i watch on pac14.
can u get info on the plane crash with blink 182's travis barker please? all i know is 4 died and he's alive but critical
Couldn't agree more - I absolutely HATE watching the first few minutes of the City Council meetings because I know the queen of Barrieland is going to be grandstanding again. I know these people receiving the awards deserve them, but have a quarterly Barrieland meeting in her office and let her present them - quit taking up time on TV doing this stuff.
I definitely agree it takes too much time from the "business at hand" during the televised council meetings for the mayor to hand out these awards. And especially since some council members are so concerned about the time it takes to conclude the meetings--and has found it necessary to curtail discussion by imposing a time limit on discussion. I find this absolutely appalling, by the way.
I do agree that public recognition is also important. My only suggestion would be perhaps this can be accomplished on the Mayor's or Louweases show on PAC 14--rather than take up the council time.

It's more outrageous conduct by Barrie Tilghman -- why should she take time from the meeting to congratulate SU's lacrosse team for being the champion this year.
Instead she should ask that the team go thru the neighborhood apologizing to the residents for the vandalism its members did last Spring.
Yes, I agree. This grandstanding on the part of the mayor is way over the top now. Once every few months should be enough for such recognitions. The reason she is doing more and more now, is the elections are getting closer and I have a clue for her. You'll never be re-elected again lady, so forget it and stop waisting the councils time.

I hope trais barker makes it out alright his version of solja boy (sp?) is flipping bad ass. He's an awesome muscian and everyone should put him and the others in the plane in their prayer.

Why should the team apologize for the dumb ass antics of two players. You should applause the play of the 3rd string goal tender who won another national championship for the team.
The act of violence was not a team endeavor, winning the championship under adverse conditions was, and should be recogonized by the entire city. Shame on you for saying the players that are responsible and dedicated should apologize for those two that did what they did.

GO CAPS!!
(hockey season is starting thank god)
You can bet your butt if those boys didn't vandalize/terrorize the neighborhoods like they did Barrie Tilghman would no more recognize the Lacrosse team than she'd recognize the letter of law. She's a scam artist. That ploy was to make nice with the SU students if she or Bubba run for mayor. They can't win without those illegal votes.
Looks good on paper but we all know that city employees are denied the right to free speach due to retaliation from the mare.
I heard a police officer tell citizens they needed to go to city council to complain about crime and the need for more officers. I do agree but why are the employees of the police department afraid to speak for themselves?
