Salisbury City Council on Police Staffing

During the final budget deliberations there was a lot of discussion about staffing the Salisbury Police Department with additional officers. Listen as those elected to public office deliberate the funding of public safety. If this doesn't make you scratch your head and ask the HOW and WHY, these folks were ever elected/re-elected to office, you must be dead.

Shanie is now an LEO professional, listen as she tells them how they should be doing their job . Only in Barrieland is Part 1 crime down. According to Shanie the recent murders were unfortunate but it's not like the shootings were random or anything. After all, SPD is fully staffed. Is this her brain on chocolates or what? Someone call a paramedic, I think she's overdosed. Oops, Sorry Shanie, no paramedic for you, the city can't afford them either.

Gary Comegys doesn't think more officers on the street are needed. Chief Webster, have you ever answered Bubba's question, where did all that money go? If they were doing a line item budget he wouldn't have to ask. The one thing Gary didn't lie about was growth paying for growth. Every developer coming down the pike has been paid for the growth of our city.

Let us not forget Lyin Louise, the princess of concensus. Louise wouldn't cast a vote before Gary if her life depended on it. If she did, she'd screw up, just like Shanie. Low and behold, Lyin Louise took a position . It only takes seconds to form a decision, after all, shes got a date with the Geritol for lunch bunch. Listen closely Weezie, as one who knows tells you why YOU and your council majority raised taxes last year.

Realizing their resources are limited, by the mayor and her administration, Debbie and Terry did what most thinking people would do. They took the issue of public safety by the horns, Terry focusing on Fire and Debbie focusing on Police. Having gathered what little information permitted them, from the departments spending time actually speaking with these public servants (who are forbidden to talk to them), they shared their findings and both took a stand for what they know is necessary and right.

Terry Cohen, who has a mind like a steel trap reminded the council of Chief Websters plan . Terry, then took her position and stood her ground with Lyin Louise. Terry, I hope you realize, you too will be receiving a letter of reprimand.

Of course, the only solutions offered were that of Debbie Campbell and Terry Cohen, their solutions fell on the deaf ears of the council majority and their pre-determined...um shall we call it concensus? It's business as usual in the land of Barrie. Debbie Campbell offered her position . Then she had the audacity to ask, what is in my opinion, the most important question of all. What do the taxpayers get ? Shame on Debbie for taking the citizenry into consideration during any deliberations, especially something as important as the annual budget.

I have the deepest gratitude for these two ladies that should have Timex stamped on their foreheads. They take a lickin' and keep on tickin'. Hold their feet to the fire, ladies. Your hard work and efforts do not go unnoticed.

There was a Salisbury PD officer that I regularly got to speak with because he was a client of mine. I found it alarming when he told me that there were times when there would only be 2 city police officers on duty. Then a few months later we heard the great hooplah over them *finally* being "fully staffed". Am I the only one who wasn't comforted by that celebration? Having adequate police presence should never be a matter of the budget. It should be a matter of protecting the people, simple as that. Put the money from the budget there FIRST, then worry over the details later. Maybe I'm a little naive for believing that that is a good solution?

Full staffed: Yes. The problem: Undersized. With those bozos You must explain things in smaller more specific words. If you don't they will twist it around to suit their agenda... the two year pay agreement for example: Comegys explained the the first year is all of a sudden considered the second year. Isn't that convenient?
I see SPD losing numerous officers in the upcoming year. It was time for the council to put up with their end of the pay agreement and now they turn it all into lies! The only reason many have stayed is the for the hope of City Council sticking to the second year of their deal. DIDN'T HAPPEN!

LET'S GET THEIR BUTTS OUT OF THE OFFICE BEFORE THERE IS NOTHING LEFT OF THE CITY!!!

4:43 said it in a nutshell. This is why Campbell and Cohen have been fighting for cuts to the budget, including the zoo. I am an animal lover (BUNNY-HUGGER, JOE), but if humans don't come before animals, there won't be anyone left to go to the zoo! And Shamie is about the most clueless person on the face of this earth, with Bubba and Louweasel close behind.

First year is the second year.....He counts as well as my 2 year old son, huh? He skips the number 1 too, incidentally. The officer I originally spoke of in my first comment HAS since left SPD and is now with the WCSD. No need to ask why!

I'm very new to Salisbury politics, tell me how have these people have been re-elected?

I worked SPD in 1998 I left, guess what the department size has never changed that I know of. They have same beat sectors, which is rediculous.

Say what you will about prior administration, but Dykes kicked ass with crime.

WHat a shame to have such a wimp as a police chief now, Why would anyone hire from Baltimore one of the most dangerous cities in the world. DAH!

County Police Force!!!

Angela they got reelected by crookedness and being backed by the certain group of trash that works the renters and contractors, and seem to have a hold on the politics of this city. Our Council President is one of the biggest lyers there is and along with Gary and Shanie they have a death grip on what happens in this town. But have no fear, elections are coming again next spring and we better make sure we vote these clowns and the mayor out!

Comegys was reelected thanks to Barrie Tilghman spewing LIES and the Daily Times/Greg Bassett allowing those lies to be printed. Then of course the letter sent out by Richard Insley and other members of SAPOA to their student tenants.

If either Barrie Tilghman or Richard Insley had an ounce of integrity and were not in fear of a GOOD, DECENT man, Tim Spies winning none of this would have ever happened. The council would be different today. The taxpayers would be the first concern the developers would be at the end of the rope.

These comments are good, but to be effective folks must speak out at the Council meetings, send messages (phone & e-mail) and when you see Barrie or her three stooges in public get in their face, especially if there are others present. And, beginning soon -- get and support good candidates for the election next year.

Kudos for a great post. Keep them coming. With Barrie and the bobbleheads it's a target rich environment.

Don't let Kemp hear you say this cuz he will run his mouth cuz he aint skeerrttt! My guess is that he couldn't be hired by a real police agency.

Go County Wide Police!!

Earlssister-

from what i have been told by a long time city officer is that their FULL STAFFING is based on mid 1970's levels. WTF?!!

there is a county wide police force it's the Sheriff's Office

When we had a real police chief, Coulbourne Dykes this is the number of officers he had. Now that we have a Baltimoron aka Jack n Coke, we have just gotten back up to those numbers. What the witch and her flying monkeys fail to take into consideration is something ALL OF US have known. The population has increased, therefore our police force is still understaffed.

Thank you, Nalagirl and others for your kind words. The current administration can't deny their own words, in their own voice.

A Colbourne Dykes and Mike Lewis combo would have made one heck of a law enforcement team for this county.

Crooks were scared of Colbourne like they are of Mike!

7:02 you couldn't crawl where Kemp could run. You are another Blue Falcon. You my friend are an example of why a county force would never happen... because of LEOs like you! Take care of you and your own and talk crap about everyone else.

Where's the "johnnies" comment? We know it's coming...again.
