Press Conference At 5:00 Today
County Executive Rick Pollitt is expected to announce today at 5:00 PM the County will terminate their agreement to purchase the controversial Crooked Oak Park project.
I have not been informed any details but considering the timing, that would be my guess. The $18,000.00 per acre project brought out what Gary Mackes states as being the most controversial project he's ever been involved with in all the years he's worked with Wicomico County.
Personally, IF this is the case, my hat is tipped to Mr. Pollitt for recognizing Fiscal Responsibility and while this brought out a ton of negative reaction from the Taxpayers of Wicomico County, it also raised enough attention to bring out other people who own property in which they wanted to be recognized and considered by the county as well.
Also expected to be brought up in this meeting is the water quality coming from the Landfill to the Wicomico River. It is my understanding that the quality is in a good range, therefore the Mayor of Salisbury cannot point a finger at the County for participating in the controversial pollution spills so frequently in the recent past.
Keep in mind, the Mayor stated it had to do with Dog poop and Pigeon poop, not the WWTP spills. I'm sorry Folks, I'm trying to stay away from the word Idiot but what an Idiot!
I'll be back after 5:00 to fill you in on the update from the Press Conference but this would be my best guess on what we're going to hear.

Sir:
Let's hope that the City will do the same with that state money for the "Dog Park" in the City Park -- sheer idiocy
Score one for the bloggers ???
Joe:
You should tell Pollitt to steer clear of "Thee Fountains" for . . . the rest of his life if he wants it to continue!
Thanks for being our local "Rush"
If Pollitt shoots down the bailout it will surprise me. He is a born and bred bureaucrat. He'll do what serves his political career best, not necessarily what is right.

It is Pure Idiocy indeed!!!!

Very disappointed. We spend 61K for a piece of crap RV and we can't fund a place for kids to play on the westside.
I understand about the cost per acre but I hope the county looks at other possible locations for our park.
Thank you Mr. Pollitt! We certainly do not need a park that is costing thousands of dollars an acre,,,,to make someone else rich!
And Joe, thanks for keeping us abreast of everything. By the time I ready to Daily Crimes, the news is OLD News! And you cover it much better!
Anon 534 Why did you choose to live in an area without a park if you are so concerned about your kids having a place to play? All the parks all over this county you had a choice of where you wanted to call home. You chose the west side with no park so either live with the choice YOU made or sell your house and move closer to a park.
Cut all this "its for the children" crap. No child left with a mind is for the children too and look what we're getting out of that.

Sounds like you must live next to this proposed piece of property. I guess I moved to the westside of town to be near jerks like you!
The westside deserves a park for kids, families, and even idiots like you! We are the ones who moved here, increased the tax base with our mansions and now deserve to have the benefits like the rest of the county.
BTW...I moved to the westside to be out of Salisbury, avoid city taxes, and be near better schools.
I hope someone with a mind offers up some land. It is up to you to choose to come to our park!
Joe, got any photos showing how poor a job Gary Maches is doing taking care of the parks we now have?

I would suggest the people who moved to the west side to build their mansions (as you said) since you are so much for the children--pool some of that mansion money and buy and upkeep your own park. NO ONE IS AGAINST THE KIDS.
As came out in the meeting-there are underutilized parks out there already and there is more suitable land with better location and prices available, so let's check that out. Besides, as stated before-Wicomico county is a small area. There is hardly anyone that can't get from point a to point b in 15 minutes---unless you live in Nanticoke, Bivalve, or those places. But truth be known, it is not about the people (kids) who live down there.
I am glad that deal got nixed. Maybe now the kids can get a park with better price and location and infrastructure already in place before the three to four years it would have taken to get all that in place with the Davis property location. Isn't that what is best for the kids?
