Let's Talk About The County Finance Department

Do you remember Stevie Prettyman throwing a fit last year when 6 Employees got a 6% pay increase while everyone else got 4%?

This is important Folks because look at who was getting those pay increases! Pat Peterson, head of the Finance Department. Ted Shea, accused of allegedly having a deck built on his home from Public Works. The list goes on and on.

Look, Pat Peterson buried these increases in a voodoo accounting fashion in a deficit column and if someone had not tipped off the Council, they would have NEVER known about the increases.

Then there's the question, how did ALL of this theft go on without the Finance Director knowing about it? I'm not pointing fingers at a position that hasn't been considered this whole time. 50% increases in fuel & oil in some departments would have sent up the red flag to me anyway.

The bottom line is, some serious digging needs to happen here and a swift hand must be in place. I'm confident the audit will bring some of this to light.

Ted Shae alledgely having deck built? Thompson alledgedly theft? I have heard nothing about either of these.

We aren't stupid, everyone knows that fuel prices have increased significantly and that would explain how the cost may have gone up somewhat.

However, when you consider that if they measured consumption, that shouldn't have went up that much and should have been picked up by someone. Again, unless this has been going on for a very long time.

Oh the weave we can place on a web.
If any of your accusations are even partially true, I think some heads should roll. There may even be need for some jail time here. I sure wondered about those 6% increases when Rick passed them out. Certainly not anything I would have done. Was he trying to make his transition to his new job easier? Sure does seem so.

How about the 10% raise to the BD of ED employees who MIGHT retire in the next three years? Where was any of that published until recently? Now, it seems to be just take the money, don't retire, and keep the 10%.

I assume all those who have stolen will have their homes confiscated and all monies returned to the County treasury with interest plus 25% penalty.
Do I understand this correctly that the highest paid county chiefs are robbing the treasury box and giving token amounts to a few closed-mouth Indians to lubricate the money-jingle operation?Since there seems to be so many theives involved, they will probably not serve jail time due to the already crowded prison.I certainly hope this stolen money was include in their 10% church tithing.

I would like to volunteer to be a member of the newly formed organization that will daily check in with each county department and photograph workers at work and photograph county cars we see being where they shouldn't be.It has been suggested that the county chiefs whose department audit fails the test be responsible for making up all deficits. After all it happened under their watch. When the cats snooze-the mice play and eat the cheese.

About 3-4 weeks ago i was across the bridge.....i and others in the car with me saw it too.....a Wicomico co sheriff/deputy car....it was 7:15 on a FRIDAY night,(not like he was going to court) the car was heading north on rt 97 just past Glen Burnie cut offs. I posted a comment on Delmarva now and i also sent a comment about this to grapevine. This was before all the wrong doings with the county or Davis Ruark came up. My question is this why are they allowed to use those county paid cars outside of this county? If they were transporting prisoners is one thing however let me make this clear. THERE WAS NO PRISIONER in that car, he had family in that car. TWO hours away, county paid car and gas to no doubt. Not counting the extra milage put on the car. This in my opinion is stealing too, at the very least abusing the system. At the tax payers expense. Why do these people get away with this behavior and how many others abuse the system, on a county, state and city levels? This type of things needs to be investigated too!
