When large numbers of residents on Salisbury's West Side are forced to leave their homes thanks to proposed "rehabilitation" of the area along the North Prong of the Wicomico River they should ask Councilwoman Shanie Shields if they can move in with her (in her non-city home on Jersey Road). Monday night the Salisbury City Council voted (with Shields in the majority) to fund a "strategic plan for the revitalization of the North Prong"
There is no secret that the Tilghman administration wants to turn the North Prong (and adjacent areas) into "condo city". Personally, I don't think it's such a bad idea. Of course I don't live there and I won't be displaced. Who will benefit? The slumlords, who will see the values of their property rise ten fold (or more).
Where will these people go? I guess that's not Shields' problem. It appears that Mrs. Shields won't be on council much longer anyway, due to her impending exodus from the city.

Agood wager at this time is the odds are in favor of "I Second That"Shannie will kepp her seat.
We all know this administration doesn't care if you're a resident of the City of Salisbury when you sit on boards or councils that make decisions that affect citizens of Salisbury, as long as you're a FOB, you're fine.
Does the Salisbury City Charter require that their council live within their districts?
A better question is " Does the Salisbury City Chrater require that their council members live within the city limits, and then whether they live in their districts?" I believe this is true in the charter, although I haven't read it myself. If its not there, it should be!

Just wondering. We have a councilman who swears he is living in his district, yet has purchased a brand new home in another district and by all accounts including his car being parked their every night, and family members talking about his new townhome, has most definately moved.
Pocomoke City Charter says that in order to run for office you must have resided in your district 6 month prior to running and if you move you must step down immediately. However, it says nothing about serving your constituents, or how many meetings you can miss.
Ridiculous!
This same argument is being ineffectively handled the same way down in Pocomoke

no one lives on the north prong only one resident home on that part of lake street which really wont be affected by it cause that person isnt on the riverfront property they are on the fire station side
