Is Salisbury Truly Prepared For The Handicapped?

As I travel around the City daily I am overwhelmed by the amount of traffic on the main roads with the handicapped. Not long ago we read a story about one of these individuals being hit and killed by an automobile and I have to tell you Folks, it's only going to get worse.

With another 4 murders in desperate need of resolution still lying out there for the Salisbury Police Department to solve, I'm sure these violations are of minimal concern to the Police Chief. Nevertheless, they are important.

Flags that go at least 6 feet into the air are a necessity. Lights and reflectors on these wheels of transportation are a necessity. I also don't understand why they don't use sidewalks when the City has spent so much money renovating the curbs to meet their needs? All too often I see these guys in the streets, acting like they are automobiles.

WalMart & Sam's Club are loaded with these motorized vehicles and it's like watching a cat fight whenever they start running short on these things. I've even seen children driving them around with their parents.

I can only hope someone starts enforcing more strict rules as to who can use them, where they can be driven and what will happen to you if you break the rules. The safety of these Citizens come first, not the driver of a vehicle with air bags.

There is evidence in a big way that the handicapped are increasing locally, far more so than many, many years ago when they started gaining more rights to access. I just don't think Salisbury is anywhere near ready or up to code to provide the proper lifestyle these people deserve as Citizens.

Now don't get me wrong Folks. I'm not at all knocking the City for where it stands at this point and time. I have personally seen Public Works out there making changes for the better. More work needs to be done, that's all.

I've been many places in our fine country and I have always been amazed at the regard for crosswalks and the rights of those crossing if you don't grant those rights to those crossing you take your life in your own hands. But,here in Salisbury it's pretty much "Death Race 2000" 24/7 and I wouldn't think of walking the streets in Salisbury.

With the picture of Blaine Cheeseman being on the blog it seemed appropriate to list the change in his condition as it was told to me yesterday. Since this photo was taken, Blaine lost his leg to cancer. It appears that the cancer has spread to one of his lungs and he can only receive 6 more treatments of chemotherapy. Thats all they can do. It would seem as though Blaines time is small. No matter how bad we think we have it, I would think that someone in Blaines position has it worse. How dare we bitch and complain about our problems! Joe, as you know, the event at which you took this photo was a benefit for Blaine. I was wondering if you could arrange a benefit right here on this blog. A benefit asking everyone to send a small donation to you so that you could present it to the Cheeseman family on behalf of your bloggers before Christmas. What do you think brother?
