Check Out The IRS's Stunning Admission Of Its Own Mafia Tactics
In the 3rd century AD, Emperor Caracalla famously remarked of Rome’s tax policy:
“For as long as we have this,” pointing to his sword, “we shall not run out of money.” (Of course, Rome did run out of money. )
At the time, Roman taxation was so extractive that it drove people into poverty and desperation. Yet the government continued to forcibly plunder wealth at the point of a sword.
Not much has changed.
The Taxpayer Advocate Service, which is an independent office within the IRS, has just released a two-volume report describing the mafia tactics that are being employed by the tax collectors in the Land of the Free.
The Executive Summary alone is 76 pages. And believe it or not, it’s a real page turner.

Chief Cites ‘Bermuda Triangle’
Tests find anomaly that led to speeding tickets
The Bermuda Triangle of urban legend swallows ships and planes in the Caribbean Sea.
There's now a new triangle in Fort Dodge in which an electromagnetic anomaly makes it appear that large vehicles are moving faster than what they really are on a speed camera and radar setup.
Police Chief Tim Carmody called the spot in the 1200 block of Sixth Avenue North the ''Bermuda Triangle." It's a spot where drivers of school buses, big panel trucks and similar vehicles have been clocked speeding by the city's mobile speed camera and radar unit even though they were obeying the 25 mph speed limit.
The problem was brought to the attention of the City Council on Dec. 19 by drivers who had wrongly received tickets in that area.

Maryland Set To Offer Retroactive Insurance As It Scrambles To Fix Obamacare Website
Maryland officials are set to announce Tuesday that consumers who could not get through the state’s balky Obamacare website may apply for retroactive coverage, The Baltimore Sun reported.
All four carriers on the Maryland Health Connection agreed to a plan that lets consumers register by phone through the exchange call center and submit bills dating back to Jan. 1. They must sign up
by Jan. 21 and pay their January and February premiums to qualify, The Sun said.

WHY DOESN'T THE FEDERAL RESERVE LEND EACH OF US $10 MILLION?
Wouldn’t that be a good way to jump start the economy?
Sheila Baer, chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. during the Crash of 2008, was a lonely voice of sanity at that time. In 2012, she wrote an article for the Washington Post poking fun at the Fed for what it had been doing. It was entitled “ Fix Inequality With $10 Million Loans For Everyone.”
Why not, she said, expand the Fed’s current welfare system for banks, financial firms, and wealthy investors to everyone else? Why not, in short, create sufficient new money to lend every US household $10 million at zero interest rates?
You might object: how will we pay the money back? But don’t worry. You won’t spend this money. You will just invest it.

Voter Fraud: We’ve Got Proof It’s Easy
Undercover agents were able to vote as dead people, but election officials are attacking the agents.
Liberals who oppose efforts to prevent voter fraud claim that there is no fraud — or at least not any that involves voting in person at the polls.
But New York City’s watchdog Department of Investigations has just provided the latest evidence of how easy it is to commit voter fraud that is almost undetectable. DOI undercover agents showed up at 63 polling places last fall and pretended to be voters who should have been turned away by election officials; the agents assumed the names of individuals who had died or moved out of town, or who were sitting in jail. In 61 instances, or 97 percent of the time, the testers were allowed to vote. Those who did vote cast only a write-in vote for a “John Test” so as to not affect the outcome of any contest. DOI published its findings two weeks ago in a searing 70-page report accusing the city’s Board of Elections of incompetence, waste, nepotism, and lax procedures.

After Seven Lean Years, Part 1: US Residential Real Estate: The Present Position And Future Prospects
"Prosperity" based on serial asset bubbles and near-zero interest rates is neither real nor sustainable.
Longtime readers know I have been covering residential housing since mid-2005. In those 8+ years, housing has proceeded through a cycle of bubble-bust-echo-bubble: now the echo bubble is crumbling, for all the same reasons the 2006-7 bubble burst: a prosperity based on asset bubbles and low interest rates is a phantom prosperity that cannot last.
Correspondent Mark G. has written a three-part series on the current state of the residential and commercial real estate (CRE) markets. Part 1 addresses residential real estate.
The broad context of this analysis is straightforward: an economy based on ever-rising consumption falters when real household incomes stagnate or decline. Real income for the bottom 90% has been stagnant for forty years, and has declined since 1999.

Caffeine May Boost Long-Term Memory
Numerous studies have suggested that caffeine has many health benefits. Now, new research suggests that a dose of caffeine after a learning session may help to boost long-term memory. This is according to a study published in the journalNature Neuroscience.
The research team, led by Daniel Borota of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, notes that although previous research has analyzed the effects of caffeine as a cognitive enhancer, whether caffeine can impact long-term memory has not been studied in detail.
To find out, the investigators analyzed 160 participants aged between 18 and 30 years.
On the first day of the study, the participants were shown pictures of different objects, and were asked to identify them as "indoor" or "outdoor" items.
Soon after this task, they were randomized to receive either 200mg of caffeine in the form of a pill, or a placebo tablet.
The next day, the participants were shown the same pictures as well as some new ones. The researchers asked them to identify whether the pictures were "new," "old," or "similar to the original pictures."

Ready For War: Parks And Wildlife Officers Now Heavily Armed As Military-Style “Force Multipliers”
You best not be a terrorist or homegrown radical extremist hiding out in the boonies of the Texas wilderness, because if you are you may well come face-to-face with the Parks and Wildlife Department’s newest rapid deployment “Scout Team.”
The unit is made up of 25 highly trained game wardens capable of deploying anywhere in the state of Texas within four hours. Armed with AR-15′s, BDU’s, and kevlar helmets, the team’s mission according to the TPWD website involves border operations, dignitary protection or any form of high-risk law enforcement, such as serving felony arrest warrants or hostage situations.
As The Dallas Observer’s Brantley Hargrove notes, “the militarization of every possible law enforcement entity in America is complete.”

When Did America Turn Into The Soviet Union?
Bill Binney is the high-level NSA executive who created the agency’s mass surveillance program for digital information. A 32-year NSA veteran widely regarded as a “legend” within the agency, Binney was the senior technical director within the agency and managed thousands of NSA employees.
Binney spent decades studying – and trying to counter – the repressive Soviet program of mass surveillance. In other words, Binney is an expert on spying in general, and Soviet spying in particular.
Binney said that – after 9/11 – America implemented the same type of system used by the Soviets.

The next time you hear a politician use the
Word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about
Whether you want the 'politicians' spending YOUR tax money.

Putting that figure into some perspective in
One of it's releases.

A billion seconds ago it was 1959.
B.
A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

NSA Data Has ‘No Discernible Impact’ On Terrorism: Report
A public policy group says a review of U.S. terrorist arrests shows the government’s collection of bulk phone records does little to prevent terrorism, adding fuel to a debate over whether the spy program should be ended.
The nonprofit New America Foundation, based in Washington, analyzed cases involving 225 people recruited by al-Qaeda or other terrorist groups and charged in the U.S. since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. The majority of cases started with traditional techniques, such as use of “informants, tips from local communities, and targeted intelligence operations,” according to a report today from the group, which has been critical of the NSA spy programs.
“Our investigation found that bulk collection of American phone metadata has had no discernible impact on preventing acts of terrorism and only the most marginal of impacts on preventing terrorist-related activity, such as fundraising for a terrorist group,” Peter Bergen, director of the foundation’s national security program, said in a statement.
