More Than 1 Killer To Blame For Bodies Found On New York's Long Island, District Attorney Claims

The district attorney of New York's Suffolk County is disputing the theory held by police that one killer is responsible for the murders of 10 victims whose remains were dumped on Long Island.

Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said Thursday he doesn't believe one killer is behind the murders, LongIslandPress.com reports.

Spota, who said he believes at least one more killer is responsible, made the remarks during testimony before the Suffolk legislature's public safety committee on Thursday, according to the website.

Ellendale-Delaware State Police Sussex County Drug Unit and the Delaware State Police Sussex County Governor’s Task Force completed two separate drug investigations in the Ellendale area with the arrest of four individuals.

The Delaware State Police Sussex County Drug Unit, Delaware State Police Sussex County Governor’s Task Force, and the Delaware State Police Special Operations Response Team culminated two separate drug investigations over a several month period by executing simultaneous search warrants on two residences located in the 13000 block of Old State Road, Ellendale, DE.

As a result of the investigation and search warrant, Patrick L. Brown and Crystal L. Cannon were taken into custody without incident inside the residence that they occupied. Troopers seized 210 grams of powder and crack cocaine, 18.9 grams of marijuana, five firearms including a pistol grip shotgun and assorted semiautomatic handguns, ammunition $616.00 United States Currency, and assorted drug paraphernalia.

As a result of the second investigation and search warrant, Terence A. Jackson and Dwane C. Ridgeway were taken into custody without incident inside the residence that they occupied. Troopers seized 2 semiautomatic rifles and ammunition, 332.8 grams of marijuana, prescription narcotics, and $823.00 United State Currency.

All were charged with the above crimes. Arraignment and bond information included above.

Teacher Investigated After Allegedly Writing 'Stupid' On Student's Face

A teacher in Overton County, Tenn., has been suspended without pay while he's investigated for writing "stupid" on a student's forehead.

Matt Eldridge, director of Overton County Schools, said the first-year teacher is accused of using a marker to write the word last week. According to the Cookeville Herald-Citizen, Eldridge would not reveal the teacher's identity until the investigation is complete.

Sex Offender Arrested In Rape Case

Location: Residence in 1700 block of Holly Hill Road, Milford, DE

Date of Occurrence: Between January of 1992 and January of 1995

Victim:

23 year old Smyrna, DE man ( between 4 and 6 years of age at the time of the crimes)

Defendant:

Woodrow W. Brown, Jr., 35, Smyrna, DE

Charges:

Unlawful Sexual Intercourse 1st Degree (3 counts)

Arraigned at JP Court 2 and committed to the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center for lack of $300,000.00 secured bail.

Smyrna, DE- Delaware State Police detectives have arrested a Smyrna man in connection with the rape of a then 4 to 6 year old male subject who he used to babysit nearly 20 years ago.

The investigation into this arrest began in October of 2011 after a 23 year old Smyrna, DE man reported to detectives that he had been sexually assaulted by a Woodrow W. Brown, Jr. of Smyrna between January of 1992 and January of 1995. The victim advised detectives that Brown used to babysit him in his then Milford area home during that time and sexually assaulted him on multiple occasions.

After further investigation detectives learned that Woodrow Brown is a registered Tier II sex offender as part of a conviction in 2009. On Thursday, December 15, detectives contacted and interviewed Woodrow W. Brown, Jr. They then obtained an arrest warrant charging Brown with three counts of Unlawful Sexual Intercourse. He was arraigned at JP Court 2 and committed to the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center for lack of $300,000.00 secured bail.

Europol Says Major Child Pornography Ring Busted

AMSTERDAM – Europol says 112 people have been arrested in connection with a major investigation into child pornography that stretched across 22 European countries.

The European police coordination agency says there are 269 suspects in all in the investigation, which was carried out under the leadership of Danish police. Nineteen men aged 24 to 55 years old are facing preliminary charges in Denmark.

Defendant In Sexual Misconduct Trial Allegedly Open Fires In Court, Injures Prosecutor And 2 Others

(CBS/AP) GRAND MARAIS, Minn. - A defendant in a sexual misconduct trial allegedly opened fire in a small northern Minnesota courthouse Thursday afternoon, injuring three people - including the local prosecutor.

State Public Safety spokesman Doug Neville said 42-year-old Daniel Schlienz was immediately taken into custody after the shootings at the Cook County Courthouse in Grand Marais, a small town near the Canadian border.

Cook County prosecutor Timothy Scannell was undergoing surgery Thursday night for multiple gunshot wounds, authorities said. Scannell and another hospitalized victim were conscious and talking before being taken to the hospital. A third victim was treated and released.

9 States To Share $500M In Early Childhood Grants

WASHINGTON - Nine states will share $500 million in grant money won in a high-profile competition intended to jump-start improvements in often-overlooked early childhood programs, The Associated Press has learned.

The winners to be announced Friday at the White House are California, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island and Washington, according to an administration official who spoke on condition of anonymity because the winners had not been officially announced.

Can Congress make legal something that is inherently wrong, and can Congress take a freedom that is a part of our humanity and make its exercise criminal?

If there were no First Amendment, would we still have the freedom of speech? The answer, like many in the law, depends on what values underlie the legal system. If the government is the source of our rights, then without the First Amendment's guarantees of free speech, any government could legally punish you for saying words and expressing thoughts it hated or feared; and it could even silence you before you spoke.

On the other hand, if our rights come from our humanity and our humanity is a gift from God, then we would still enjoy the freedom of speech, whether it is insulated from government interference by the First Amendment or not. The wording of the First Amendment itself gives us a peek at what its authors thought. They wrote: "Congress shall make no law ... abridging the freedom of speech." It doesn't say that Congress shall grant freedom of speech; rather, it prohibits Congress from interfering with it. And by referring to free speech as the freedom of speech, the drafters recognized that the freedom of speech already existed before the country that they were founding even came to be.

Ron Paul rides in the back of a campaign van that’s rolling toward the New Hampshire seacoast for a town hall meeting. He’s fastidious in a dark-blue suit. He’s not the standard presidential candidate — he lacks the factory-built appearance of Mitt Romney or Rick Perry. He’s thin, bony, a bantam rooster. He’s 76 — the only one in the race who was born during the Great Depression.

He doesn’t wear his seat belt. “I never have,” he says, and doesn’t explain whether it’s a matter of back-seat comfort or a deep, philosophical aversion to nanny-state meddling in our lives.

The one big idea: Government tramples liberty. He’s by far the most radically anti-government candidate in the running. He’d boil the federal government down to a few, skeletal functions.
He’d end the welfare state, cut every dime of foreign aid, halt overseas military action and bring home all the troops. He’d return to the gold standard and abolish the Federal Reserve.
