A few weeks after Hillary Clinton was sworn in as secretary of state in early 2009, she was summoned to Geneva by her Swiss counterpart to discuss an urgent matter. The Internal Revenue Service was suing UBS AG to get the identities of Americans with secret accounts.
If the case proceeded, Switzerland’s largest bank would face an impossible choice: Violate Swiss secrecy laws by handing over the names, or refuse and face criminal charges in U.S. federal court.
Within months, Mrs. Clinton announced a tentative legal settlement—an unusual intervention by the top U.S. diplomat. UBS ultimately turned over information on 4,450 accounts, a fraction of the 52,000 sought by the IRS, an outcome that drew criticism from some lawmakers who wanted a more extensive crackdown.

Federal Judge Threatens IRS Commissioner, DOJ Lawyers With Contempt of Court
(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch announced that U.S District Court Judge Emmet Sullivan today threatened to hold the Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service and Justice Department attorneys in contempt of court after the IRS failed to produce status reports and newly recovered emails of Lois Lerner, former director of the Exempt Organizations Unit of the IRS, as he had ordered on July 1, 2015.
During the status hearing Wednesday, Sullivan warned that the failure to follow his order was serious and the IRS and Justice Department’s excuses for not following his July 1 order were “indefensible, ridiculous, and absurd.”

Defense says prosecutors withholding evidence Freddie Gray 'attempted to injure himself' in previous arrest
"Based upon information and belief, the State's Attorney's Office was informed of this fact, yet failed to disclose to the Defendants any statements, reports, or other communications relating to this information," they wrote.
Gray, a 25-year-old Baltimore man with a history of arrests, died in April after suffering a severe spinal cord injury in a police van. Six officers who were involved in his arrest and transport on April 12 have been charged with violations that range from misconduct in office to second-degree murder.

“Has the White House had any communication with Planned Parenthood about standardizing procedures for fetal tissue research? Has the White House had any concerns about illegalities in this realm? Have you had any sort of investigation, or are you considering one?” McKelway asks.
“Not that I’m aware of,” Earnest says. “I think Planned Parenthood has been quite specific about the policies and procedures that they have in place, and I know they have described those policies and procedures as living up to the highest ethical standards.”

Numerous people on Twitter pointed to evidence suggesting that this so-called hack wasn’t a hack at all.
A review of the source code of the main page that appears at PlannedParenthood.org shows that as of 9:30 a.m. today, the page is listed as a “Campaign” and uses a specific template named “Site Down Tempalte” (the typo is theirs). The same page then directs visitors to the Facebook page of Planned Parenthood Action Fund, the political fundraising arm of the nation’s largest abortion provider.

Killing of Cecil the lion triggers probe by U.S. agency
The service is probing the killing under the Lacey Act, which bars trading in wildlife that has been illegally killed, transported or sold, the source said on Thursday.
Palmer, whose practice is in suburban Minneapolis, has admitted to killing the 13-year-old lion and tourist attraction, in July. Questions have been raised by the Zimbabwe government and animal conservationists about Cecil's death outside the Hwange National Park, where he was the head of two lion prides.
The best known lion in Zimbabwe is said to have been lured from the park with bait, shot with an arrow, tracked for 40 hours, shot dead with a rifle and then beheaded and skinned.
Cecil was wearing a GPS collar as part of a research project run by Oxford University.

Text Messages Show Marilyn Mosby’s Office Went ‘Judge-Shopping’
The Baltimore Sun reports that in a motion filed Wednesday, the cops’ attorneys said they have phone logs and text messages from April 27 showing that assistant state’s attorney Albert Peisinger reached out to Baltimore circuit court judge Timothy Doory to sign off on a search warrant for the officers’ department-issued phones. That was after a search warrant had already been denied by a different judge.
The defense attorneys had filed a motion earlier this month accusing Mosby’s office of judge-shopping. Mosby denied the accusation as a “falsehood” in a response motion filed last week.

Salisbury, Md – The Annual West Wicomico Heritage Ride Bike Tour will return on Saturday, Sept. 12. The tour will begin and end at Pemberton Historical Park and travel through the western Wicomico County towns of Whitehaven, Hebron, Quantico and Bivalve. Cyclers will experience 300 years of Maryland history along some of the most scenic roadways on the Eastern Shore.
Participants may choose from a new 5.5 mile Family Fun Ride, 32, 50 or 62 mile ride. Riders receive a t-shirt, map and cue sheet upon check-in. Rest areas are conveniently placed throughout the tour complete with sports drinks, iced water and healthy snacks. SAG service is available as well. The event concludes at Pemberton Historical Park with an outdoor picnic and live music until 2:30 p.m. Beer will be available for purchase (valid ID required).
Register early and save $5! Now through August 14, registration fees are $35 for adults and $20 for children (ages 8-18). Children ages 7 & under ride free (t-shirt not included). After August 14, registration fees will be $40 for adults and $25 for children. It is currently raising funds to replace the schoolhouse roof.

Two Indictments and Arrests in Two Separate Sussex Child Deaths
Valorie Handy, 51 of Millsboro, was indicted Monday, July 27, 2015, on one charge of Murder by Abuse or Neglect 1st Degree in the death of a 10-month old victim in her daycare in January 2015. The case has been ruled a homicide.
On Wednesday January 28, 2015 around 2:15 p.m., troopers were dispatched to Handy's Little Disciples daycare located at 28194 Layton-Davis Road after a 9-1-1 call was received from the home stating a 10 month old was unresponsive. Preliminary investigation suggests a daycare worker attempted to wake the 10 month old male from a nap, and upon doing so, observed the infant unresponsive. The young child was transported by EMS to Beebe Healthcare in Lewes where he was eventually pronounced dead.
On Wednesday, July 29, 2015, Handy was taken into custody near her residence and presented before the Sussex County Superior Court and was committed to Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution in default of $100,000 cash bond. (mug shot attached).
Detoshia Spence, 23, of Laurel was indicted on Monday, July 27, 2015 on the following charges: Murder by Abuse or Neglect 1st degree, 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, 2 counts of Child Abuse 2nd, and Offensive Touching in the death of her 3-year old daughter in April.
The preliminary investigation started on Friday, April 17, 2015, at approximately 7:17 p.m., after a call was received by the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center reporting CPR in progress. The Laurel Police Department, Laurel Fire Department, and Sussex County Paramedics were dispatched to the 900 block of Daniel Street, Carvel Gardens Laurel, DE. The victim was turned over to the Division of Forensic Sciences where an autopsy was performed. The manner of death was ruled a homicide.
On Wednesday, July 29, 2015, Spence turned herself in at DSP Troop 4 and then presented before Sussex County Superior Court. She was committed to Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution in default of a $111,100.00 cash bond.
“The deaths of children at the hands of those who are supposed to be caring for them are tragic and heartbreaking cases,” Attorney General Matt Denn said. “The police and prosecutors in these two cases spent months investigating the cases and reviewing evidence, including complex medical evidence about how each of these children died. I am proud of how DOJ’s criminal prosecutors and DSP troopers in Sussex worked through these tough cases to get to these indictments.”
