WICOMICO COUNTY SEEKING EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST TO PURCHASE PROPERTY FOR NEW TRANSFER STATION
County officials looking for land in the Fruitland/Allen area
November 30, 2012 -- The Wicomico County Department of Public Works is currently seeking “Expressions of Interest” from property owners who may wish to sell property to Wicomico County, Maryland for the purpose of establishing a new transfer station for residential solid waste in the Fruitland/Allen area.
The Department of Public Works is looking to purchase property with the following characteristics and features:
1. The property must be located west of Fruitland, west of U.S. Route 13 and south of the Wicomico River to the border of Somerset County
a. Wicomico County would prefer the property to be centrally located within this area
2. The property must be at least 15 acres minimum in size
a. Wicomico County would prefer to purchase an entire parcel or lot
3. The property must be located adjacent to a public road or within 500 feet of a public road with a minimum 30 foot access easement to the property
4. The property must be mostly cleared of trees
5. The property must have minimal to no non-tidal wetland areas
6. The property must have no outstanding environmental issues
7. Electrical service must be available at the property
The deadline for property owners to respond to the “Expressions of Interest” is December 31, 2012. Persons wishing to respond to or who have questions regarding the “Expressions of Interest” should contact Mr. Jim Grindle, Civil Engineer at 410-548-4935.
Let's Have A Depression Now
The United States is more than four years into its form of economic purgatory. The government pronounced the recession over in June of 2009. That announcement does not conform with reality or even subsequent government suspect data. Even the Administration-friendly New York Times [16] knows better:
Between June 2009, when the recession officially ended, and June 2011, inflation-adjusted median household income fell 6.7 percent, to $49,909, according to a study [17] by two former Census Bureau[18] officials. During the recession — from December 2007 to June 2009 — household income fell 3.2 percent.
To believe the recession ended requires a bizarro interpretation of economics where bad is actually good and good is actually bad.
21st Century politics sees no need for truth. When government believes itself to be responsible for the economy and convinces the people of that, it has put itself into a box. In a world where government claims credit for good things, bad things ultimately become their responsibility as well. Recessions are bad things which government should not have allowed to happen or should fix quickly.
The reality is that government does not create wealth or economic abundance. (They can create poverty, however.) When recessions occur, they threaten the myth of all powerful government. The first reaction of government is to do something regardless of whether something makes sense or not. The second phase is to declare the problem solved (in this case, claim the recession ended).
This kind of politics is dangerous on two counts. First, government risks what little credibility it has left (which I might say is not necessarily a bad thing). Second, it causes government to pursue policies which reinforce its lies. It is these policies which created the current economic crisis in the first place.
The country’s economic problems began decades ago. In trying to cover them up with economic interventions (stimuli), government actions prevented the economy from correcting the imbalances that caused slow growth. From a political standpoint, economic policies encouraged institutions and people to use debt to live beyond their means. The massive debt buildup in both the economy and the government hid the underlying problems and allowed them to grow ever larger and more malignant out of sight.
After decades of such interventions, the economy no longer is able to function efficiently. In order to remedy the problems, massive liquidations of debt and misallocated assets are necessary. There is no other way to achieve an economic cleansing. It may be possible to continue this economic charade with additional interventions, but there is a limit to how far it can be continued. Japan has achieved zombie existence for over two decades by refusing to face up to the imbalances in their economy. Our government has chosen the same course of “extend and pretend.” There is no hope for a recovery until something like another Great Depression liquidates the built-up imbalances.
No politician wants to be in office when that event occurs. Thus, they make matters worse for the country by continuing to spend money we don’t have to prop up an economy that cannot and should not be saved. Their goal is not to repair the economy but to ensure the most favorable terms for their own re-election. As a result they continue to savage the future of the country in order to protect their own present.
People will eventually regain control of their government. They always do. Unfortunately the process of history is slow and sometimes ugly. Multiple generations around the world have never known freedom. China and the Soviet Union are two examples that are just now transitioning toward freedom. Are we to enter some institutional dark ages where our grandchildren and their grandchildren do not experience freedom? It is possible because all governments prefer more power for themselves and less liberty for their citizens.
The required change is so great as to be analogous to an addict trying to break his habit. Most addicts have to hit rock-bottom before reality intrudes. In the case of the US, we are going to hit rock-bottom when the economy collapses. That is likely to be within the next ten years and could be at the front end of that estimate. This world-changing event may (at least temporarily) drive a stake through the heart of big, oppressive welfare-state governments.
There is no guarantee that government will shrink when this happens. Civil unrest is a likely outcome. Statists may attempt to use the crisis to further expand government. Martial law and other restraints are likely. Hitler used a similar situation to rise to power. Parts of the Constitution were emasculated under New Deal policies that “had to be done” to pull us out of the Depression. Of course, we never got out of the Depression until after the end of WWII.

Reminder For Homeowners In Maryland
Any resident homeowner eligible or receiving the Homestead Tax Credit must submit the one-time Homestead Application by December 31, 2012 to the Department of Assessments and Taxation. To determine if you have already filed, go to the Department’s website, www.dat.state.md.us and click on the Real Property page for your specific property address. At the bottom of the page for your property, you will see the Homestead Application Status and the date an application was approved, if received. If an application is not submitted by December 31, 2012, then the Homestead Credit will be disallowed beginning with the July 1, 2013 tax year bill.
If you have not filed an application, you can call the Department’s Homestead Program at 410-767-2165 from the Baltimore/Metropolitan area or toll free at 866-650-8783, where a special application with an ‘Access Code’ will be mailed to you so that you can file the form electronically on the website. Filing electronically gets the form processed immediately and you will receive via email an electronic confirmation of the form’s receipt. Alternatively, you can go the Department’s website and click on the Homestead Application heading. There you can print a fillable application in PDF format that you will have to mail to the Department at the address show. You will NOT receive a written acknowledgment that the paper form was received.

Animal Shelter Wins ASPCA, Rachel Ray Money
The Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS) has won $35,000 as a Northeast regional winner in a national contest sponsored by the ASPCA and a foundation run by Food Network personality and talk show host Rachel Ray.
Organizers say shelter is recognized for its large number of adoptions, and its efforts to protect animals.
The shelter in South Baltimore is being recognized in part for having 2,054 dogs and cats adopted in a three month period from August to September. The APSCA says that is a 49% increase over the same period last year.

2 Dogs Shot By Officer After Attacking Md. Boy
Anne Arundel County police say two dogs were shot by officers after attacking a 7-year-old boy.
Police say the dogs were shot Saturday afternoon after they received a call from the boy's aunt. Police spokesman Lt. James Fredericks said that when an officer arrived a few minutes later, the two American bulldogs were still attacking the boy.

Let's Talk About Today's Daily Times Headline Front Page Article
Ireton, council at loggerheads on many Salisbury issues
You have to ask yourself, who's the bigger wussy, the Daily Times or Jim Ireton. This broken record has been playing over and over again for years now.
Are you sick and tired of the same old crap from your local media? WMDT chimed in several months ago calling the Council majority the Council of No's. They sent reporters uninvited to three Council Members homes, knocked on their doors and demanded they answer very harsh and direct questions from the station manager.
Here's how I see it and you have every right to voice your opinions in comments. Mayor Jim Ireton has brought forth lazy, amateur proposals the this Council. He has absolutely no clue what he's doing business wise and the projects he's brought forth he already knew well in advance the Council was going to shoot it down. He pushed these projects forward and screamed and yelled because they sucked. He hoped the local media would support him and guess what, they did. Have you ever seen the local TV station managers, general managers or someone like Greg Bassett run for Mayor of Salisbury? Of course not, yet their experts on how things should be done. PLEASE! Instead, they have employees participating in alleged phone spoofs.
Look, a new election is coming up and Jim Ireton has NOTHING he can stand proud in front of a crowd and say he's accomplished, you know it and I know it.
I am NOT trying to pick on Jim, he's a nice guy. However, he's solely a politician who has been sucking at the government teat since he graduated school. He has no business background and he's simply become a professional at liberal politics in which he screams and yells whenever he doesn't get his way. Then he points fingers at every one else because of his failures.
As your next Mayor, I've said this a hundred times, I will bring things to the table the entire Council can work with. If they can't, I'll go back to the drawing board until we have it right as a team. I won't spend 4 years blaming every one else.
As for Palmer Gillis, I think he was a bit too harsh with his words in that article. Palmer is a very wise and successful local businessman. His history in Salisbury is proven. Something should move forward with the old Station 16, I agree. Has the Council sat too long on this one, absolutely. When I'm elected we'll get something moving in the right direction for that property. Something the entire Council as well as residents will be proud of.
The Bricks was just plain stupid right out of the gate. Local government does NOT belong in the Landlord business, especially at $200,000.00 to $300,000.00 a unit! The proposal to surplus all of the parking lots Downtown and sell them off for subsidized housing units, (500 of them) again is just plain stupid. I HAVE NOT MET ONE PERSON WHO LIKES THAT IDEA.
As far as a Council/Manager form of government, Salisbury could be a great candidate for such a thing. HOWEVER, this is a legislative decision that would have to be sold to the voters.
The Daily Times said: "When Tim Spies was elected to the City Council last year, he immediately joined Council President Terry Cohen and Councilwoman Debbie Campbell to create a near-unshakable majority. Two years into his term as mayor, Ireton faced an uphill legislative battle."
Now this is very interesting and I want ALL of you to think about this for a minute. Let's remember that Jim Ireton was allegedly and throughout history aligned with Debbie, Terry and Tim. I ask you, WHO CHANGED and WHY? I know the people reading this Blog are NOT stupid.
While the Daily Times audience dwindles day by day, articles like the one they delivered today are packing far less of a punch then they had power wise in years past. Jim Ireton has proven he cannot manage his position as Mayor. He has proven he doesn't have what it takes to really get things moving in the right direction.
Just ask yourself who Jim Ireton has been aligned with for the past 10+ years. Remember Jim Ireton was one of the "Dirty Dozen" back in the day, or is he just another Louise Smith?

Laurel, DE- The Delaware State Police has arrested Manuel Vasquez, 24 of Delmar, DE after he turned himself into detectives Friday afternoon.
Vasquez turned himself into State Police detectives yesterday afternoon after seeing himself on news outlets. He was processed for the charges of Attempted Murder 1st, Assault 1st, and Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony. He was arraigned at JP2 and committed to SCI on $45,000.00 secured bond.
Troopers were called to the Five Points Liquor Store on North Central Avenue in Laurel around 4:00 p.m. Thursday November 29th after a 27 year old male was found lying on the ground near the rear of the store with stab wounds to his face. The investigation revealed the 27 year old victim had just left the liquor store when he was confronted by Manuel Vasquez. As the victim attempted to walk away from Vasquez, a physical altercation ensued and Vasquez stabbed the victim in the face with a knife multiple times. Vasquez then fled the scene in an unknown direction.
The 27 year old victim was initially transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital and then later transferred to Christiana Hospital where he is currently admitted for his injuries.
DRIVER SOUGHT IN ANNE ARUNDEL CO. HIT AND RUN FATAL
(GLEN BURNIE, MD) – Maryland State Police are searching for the driver of a vehicle that struck and killed a man on I-295 near the Baltimore Beltway early this morning.
The victim is identified as Henry Smith, 71, of Laurel, Md. He was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy today at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore confirmed his death was the result of being struck by a vehicle.
Shortly before 3:00 a.m. today, Maryland State Police at the Glen Burnie Barrack received a call for a person walking in the roadway on northbound I-295 near I-695. A trooper responded to the area and found the victim lying in the fast lane of I-295, just south of I-695. EMS personnel responded and determined the victim was deceased.
State Police CRASH Team investigators responded to conduct the investigation. A description of the vehicle that struck the victim is unknown at this time. Troopers found broken pieces from a vehicle at the scene and they are being examined.
It is unknown why Smith was walking in the area at the time. No evidence was found that he had broken down while driving through the area and might have been walking for assistance. Investigators are still attempting to determine why he was in the area. He lived alone in Laurel, but troopers have located family members and are attempting to develop additional information from them.
Anyone who may have witnessed this hit and run, or who may have any information about the vehicle that struck Smith, or who may have had contact with Smith last night, is urged to contact Maryland State Police at the Glen Burnie Barrack at 410-761-5130.
State Police have requested assistance from the State Highway Administration in an effort to obtain information. Message boards are being placed along I-295 to urge anyone with information to contact State Police.
The investigation is continuing.

It was a strange development in a case that has seen more than its share: Chris Serino, the lead Sanford police investigator in the Trayvon Martin shooting, hired famed Casey Anthony defense attorney Jose Baez to represent him at his upcoming deposition in the case.
It's unclear what prompted Serino to hire a private attorney — eschewing available representation by the city of Sanford, his employer. But one issue likely to come up is his double-talk on whether there was enough evidence to support George Zimmerman's arrest as controversy surrounding the case spiraled out of control last spring.
Serino wrote in a sworn affidavit that there was probable cause to arrest Zimmerman. But he later told the Federal Bureau of Investigation he was pressured to author that document and didn't believe the evidence was sufficient for the manslaughter charge he recommended.

West Point Chapel Hosts Its First Same-Sex Wedding
Penelope Gnesin and Brenda Sue Fulton, a West Point graduate, exchanged vows in the regal church in an afternoon ceremony, attended by about 250 guests and conducted by a senior Army chaplain.
The two have been together for 17 years. They had a civil commitment ceremony that didn't carry any legal force in 1999 and had long hoped to formally tie the knot. The way was cleared last year, when New York legalized same-sex marriage and President Barack Obama lifted the "Don't ask, don't tell" policy prohibiting openly gay people from serving in the military.
