Anytime Ron Paul sits across from Ben Bernanke you know sparks will fly. Sure enough, they did: starting 50 seconds into the clip below, Ron Paul, guns blazing, asks the Chairman if he does his own shopping, if he is aware of what true inflation is, and if he knows that Americans don't trust the government because they are being lied to about inflation. And it only gets better, once Paul starts brandishing a silver coin. The punchline: "The Fed will self-destruct anyway when the money is gone" - amen. And ironically letting the Fed keep on doing what it is doing will achieve that in the fastest possible way. In fact, letting the system cannibalize itself with no further hindrances may be the best option currently available - just go to town.

Government Increasingly Eyeing Dissent On Social Media
A subpoena by the New York City District Attorney’s office to Twitter should raise alarm bells for anyone who uses social media during demonstrations. According to the Electronic Frontier Foundation, the DA subpoenaed the social media site for “any and all user information, including email address, as well as any and all tweets posted for the period of 9/15/2011-12/31/2011” from user Malcolm Harris (h/t Common Dreams). Harris (@destructuremal), managing editor for the New Inquiry online magazine, was arrested with 700 other demonstrators on the Brooklyn Bridge on October 1, 2011. The arrested were charged with disorderly conduct, which carries a punishment of a $250 fine or up to 15 days in jail.
The District Attorney’s office is attempting to use Harris’ tweets to contradict his defense that demonstrators on the bridge did not hear police orders to vacate the area and had permission to march. Harris and his lawyers from the National Lawyers Guild argue the subpoena is an “unwarranted invasion of privacy.” The San Francisco Gate reports Assistant District Attorney Lee Langston disagrees, writing “he has no proprietary or privacy interest in tweets that he broadcast to every person with access to the Internet.”

11 Reasons To Get Your Kids Out Of The Government Schools
It should be painfully obvious to everyone by now that it is time to get all of our kids out of the government schools. The public school system in the United States has been dramatically declining for a long time, and in most areas of the country the public schools are open sewers at this point. Yes, there are some U.S. public schools that are still very good and that do a decent job of preparing our young people for their adult lives. But those good schools are the exception to the rule. Hopefully the school shooting that just happened in Ohio will be a wake up call to millions of parents out there. Drugs, sex and violence are rampant in American public schools today. The "teachers" are endlessly pushing specific political and social agendas down the throats of our kids, and the skills that our children really need such as reading, writing and mathematics are often badly neglected. Hopefully we can get more parents educated about what is really going on in these schools. After all, why would any parents want to send their children into an environment that is going to be highly destructive for them for six to eight hours a day?

Comes now Wicomico County Taxpayers advocacy group – VOICE – (VOTERS OPPOSED TO INCREASED COUNTY EXPENDITURES) – and hereby cites specific reasons for opposing the proposed legislation.
Reasons against the Proposed Legislation:
1. The legislation being proposed circumvents the ‘express will of the people’ as the Wicomico County Revenue Cap charter amendment was adopted through a public referendum whereby approximately 64% of the voters approved the revenue cap limitation.
2. The legislation being proposed will severely penalize the Wicomico Co. Council in their ability to fund other governmental entities including: the Sheriffs Department, Fire Department, Department of Corrections, Planning & Zoning, Building Inspections, Health Department, Transportation Department, and other public entities.
3. The legislation being proposed unjustly discriminates by giving priority to the County’s education budget over other public entities as outlined in item 2 above.
4. The legislation being proposed will preclude the Wicomico County Council, and, the elected County Executive to have autonomy to make their own funding decisions without the heavy-handed, mandated spending formulas imposed from the State. Moreover the bill is vague and unconstitutional inasmuch as it allows those who administer the Board of Education budget so much discretion that administrators will severely impair the County Council and County Executive’s ability to administer their office.
5. The legislation being proposed is illegal in that it is being sponsored as an EMERGENCY BILL. A record of the Bill filing reveals that HB-1412 was filed and First Read on 02/27/12, Re-referred to Ways and Means & Appropriations committee on 02/28, and that the hearing Notice was then posted sometime on 02/29/12 – just 1 day before the time of the scheduled meeting. The scheduled hearing does not give the general public adequate notice – and thus is illegal in that the sponsors intent is to try and ‘ramrod’ the bill through without adequate public input.
For all of the above cited reasons our organization respectfully request that the Maryland House Ways & Means and Appropriations Committees to reject the legislation being proposed.

Ayn Rand Worshippers Should Face Facts: Blue States Are The Providers, Red States Are The Parasites
There's only one way to demonstrate who America's producers and parasites really are. It's time to go Galt.
Last week, the New York Times published a widely discussed article updating an argument that progressive bloggers noticed a very long time ago. It's now well-understood that blue states generally export money to the federal government; and red states generally import it.
TPM published a great map showing exactly how this redistribution works:
Progressives believe in the redistribution of wealth, so we're not usually too upset by this state of affairs. That’s what it means to be one country. E pluribus unum, and all that. We’re happy to help, because we think we’ve got a stake in making sure kids in rural Alabama get educations and seniors in Arizona get healthcare. What’s good for them is good for all of us. We also like to think they’d help us out if our positions were reversed. It’s an investment in making America stronger, and we feel fine about that.
But maybe it's time to admit that we're being played for chumps, and that there are people in the rest of the country who are taking way too much advantage of our good nature. After all: it's now a stone fact that the blue states and cities are the country's real wealth creators. That's why we pay more taxes, and are able to send that money to the red states in the first place. We're working our butts off, being economically productive, going to college, raising good kids, supporting reality-based schools, keeping our marriages together, tending to our busy and diverse cities, and generally Playing By The Rules. And the fates have smiled on us in rough proportion to the degree that we’ve invested in our own common good.

City Demands Christians Get Permit For Bible Study
Chuck and Stephanie Fromm already have been fined $300 for holding Bible studies for their friends at their home, and they face the potential for additional fines of $500 for each study held, according to a legal team taking their case to court.
The newest conflict over Bible studies in homes in America arose in San Juan Capistrano, Calif., where city officials say city code section 9-3.301 prohibits religious organizations in residential neighborhoods without a conditional-use permit, a sometimes very expensive procedure.
The code cites “churches, temples, synagogues, monasteries, religious retreats, and other places of religious worship and other fraternal and community service organizations.”

Life As A Landlord
I’M a landlord in Lakewood, Ohio, a Cleveland suburb near where I live that is predominantly prewar apartment buildings and double houses. In Cleveland — and probably most of the Midwest — you can get a clean one-bedroom in a decent neighborhood for $500. No air-conditioning and no dishwasher, but the unit is painted and has refinished hardwood floors.
I once had a tenant, Stan, who paced those floors at 3 a.m., waking up the people below. When I asked Stan to ease up, he said: “What do you want from me? I can’t fly.”
He moved out shortly after that.
About 10 years later, he called and said: “Stratton, you remember me. I want to move back in.”
“Stan!” I said. “You complained about the guy across the hall blasting organ music. You complained about the people below you fornicating. You skipped on your final month’s rent. You painted the floor.”
“But I used Benjamin Moore paint, Stratton. Only the best.”
I didn’t let him back in.
I want my tenants to be law-abiding and act middle-class. That’s the goal. The riskiest tenants are bartenders and servers. They often come home late and party hard, annoying the 9-to-5 tenants. I rent to welders, bartenders, landscapers, flight attendants, legal secretaries and Suzuki violin teachers. Some of the tenants meet one another in the vestibule, fall in love and marry. Then I have another vacancy.

Speeding Councilwoman To Take Driving Course, Give Up County Car
WASHINGTON - A Prince George's County councilmember stopped for speeding released a second statement Wednesday after receiving some public criticism.
"I take full responsibility for my actions and I apologize to my constituents, my County Council colleagues, and Prince George's County," Karen Toles wrote. "In addition to paying the appropriate fine, I will not be driving a county owned vehicle until voluntarily completing a driver improvement course to ensure my safety and the safety of others."
Toles was issued a warning for the speeding infraction last week, but did receive a $90 violation for an unsafe lane change. Police said Tuesday that a warning is consistent with the discretion officers have in handling speeding motorists.

DALLAS, February 28, 2012 — When a facebook user posted a negative comment about a presidential candidate to a private page, he found himself in a whole mess of trouble, with authorities showing up at his workplace and later arriving at his home to interrogate him.
According to Jason Brashear of Citizen Wars who reported Sunday that the facebook user, also named Jason, had contacted him with the story, a local police officer and two sheriffs showed up at his home, explaining, “We are here because of a possible threat to Senator Santorum based on your Facebook comment.”
The comment in question? “I wish there was a magic wand to make Senator Santorum disappear,” which Jason had posted to a private political thread.
The officer explained he had made his appearance at Jason’s house,
“..to view the home and make sure that there were no pictures of the former Senator Rick Santorum or evidence that Jason was planning something against the former Senator."
The officer explained the US Government has a system to monitor and scan all social sites like Facebook for key words that might raise suspension of ill intent. The officer stated that Jason was ‘flagged due to his post on Facebook.’

The plan is the latest federal attempt to protect the northern spotted owl, the passive, 1-pound bird that sparked an epic battle over logging in the Pacific Northwest two decades ago. The government set aside millions of acres of forest to protect the owl, but the bird's population continues to decline - a 40 percent slide in 25 years.
A plan announced Tuesday would designate habitat considered critical for the bird's survival, while allowing logging to reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfire and to create jobs. Habitat loss and competition from barred owls are the biggest threats to the spotted owl.

Charter schools are publicly funded schools that are governed by private groups that sign a contract, or charter, with the state. The charter requires that the school meet certain standards of accountability in return for taxpayer funding, but in other areas it exempts the school from many burdensome state or local regulations. Some of the most burdensome are rules required by labor unions.
Charter school teachers usually are not required to join existing union collective-bargaining units. This means charter schools can more easily promote good teachers and fire bad ones. But, of course, this has made charter schools targets for hostile union action.
