Pompeo Will Address RNC and Liberal Heads Are Exploding Again

It’s only illegal if Republicans do it.

The Hatch Act, which bars federal employees from participating in partisan politics while on the job or on federal property, is one of those earnest efforts from the past to reform the government. The idea was to make a clear dividing line between government and politics.

Except that’s impossible. Government is political. It has always been so and always will be. That’s not to say an effort shouldn’t be made to separate the two. But when the State Department drags its feet in fully carrying out a president’s wishes or an agency decides to interpret a law in a blatantly political way, we don’t hear many complaints from the media or Democrats.

Not so when Republicans edge up to the line and threaten to cross it.

Politico:

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s decision to deliver remarks to the Republican National Convention this week is a break from all sorts of norms and precedents designed to keep America’s chief diplomat out of the partisan fray.

It may also be violating State Department policy he himself approved, according to an email sent by his deputy.

They don't make much rational noise when they explode, but do make a mess they expect everyone else to clean up.

Hatch Act has been around since the Mid 1900 (look it up snowflakes) and prohibits federal employees from being political in a nut shell. Workplace you aren't suppose to discuss or show political affiliation. Off time, can't be a participant for public office. Exceptions yes, but majority of your time as a Fed - now politics. Of course folks will talk, but it is frowned upon.

Another exception/exemption as it pertains to participation in political campaigning are those individuals appointed by the Prez. So given the scope of this article Pompeo was exemption. In question would be he not following additional State Dept policy. A new precedent - no. This has been done in the past. Game changer? No. Dems whining again? Yes.

Move along, absolutely nothing to see here!

Illegal is illegal. It doesn't matter what party does it.

We don't give a pass to our team, then excoriate the other for similar transgressions.

If anyone violates that Hatch act, prosecute to the full extent!
