Heroes Died for What the Flag Represents. Why We Stand for It Today.

An American flag waves over the head of a black man. Surrounded by acts of injustice, rage, and violence, he wears a uniform tinged with red and kneels in the midst of a green field.

A calling has led him to this place, a desire to “serve my God serving my country and my oppressed brothers.”

This man is William Carney, the date is 1863, and the place is Fort Wagner, the southern approach to the harbor in Charleston, South Carolina.

Carney’s regiment, the 54th Massachusetts Infantry, had been tasked with serving as the spearhead of the Union assault. As the bullets whistling past claimed the life of the color sergeant, Carney picked up the flag and led the assault on the Confederate position.

If you're trying to give the black, asinine, RACIST POS a history lesson?? Don't bother. They know why. They hate AMERICA. They have the mindset they are owed. Why?? Because we have given these ungrateful, stupid, scamming, RACIST'S everything. Let's do what we did in the 60's. Beat their ASS at every turn. Either act civil?? Or get your ass beat!! Period.

Had a customer of mine in Long Island Ny tell me 6 years ago and I quote
"Damn I wish you guys had won the war! " Looks like we are going to win the next one ! Just pray Trump wins and the Feds will do it for us. This hatred of white people, Western Civilization, capitalism ( by lazy bastards that do not want to work), our beautiful history and the USA cannot stand!

Fast forward to Korea and Vietnam Nam.. All. GI’s were different shades of colors. Did they care?? Each person depended upon the others for his life. What happened? That generation is dying and the new generations are pushing racism for their own personal and political profit. I am saddened that my grandchildren will never know the America that WAS the land of the free.

Heroes died for liberty and freedom. While it may be distasteful to you, freedom includes not being compelled to worship a flag.

Countries that compel state worship and state iconography worship, like North Korea, are generally countries we consider "enemy", and generally are not countries known for "freedom".

So NO. Heroes don't die for flags. They die for liberty and freedom.

I don't see why this is so hard to understand.

Regardless of what you call a symbol 142, this is also about showing respect.
A cross is technically a symbol but would you disrespect that just because you have the freedom to do so?
The Massachusetts 54th defended the flag under conditions that were unfair to them. They were underpaid cannon fodder and they knew it. But they still defended and respected that symbol because of the freedom it stood for.
So yes, it is hard for some people to understand your point of view ....the people who have respect for this country and it's symbols find your point of view very difficult to understand since you obviously do not know the meaning of respect.

For people with blind loyalty to Trump, not the Constitution, it is a very difficult concept to grasp.

Yes they died for liberty and freedom and the American flag says it all. God bless America. If you don't like us or our flag get the hell out. You are not wanted. See how much Korea and Russia tolerate your dislike for your country.

I've tried to figure what makes people that have no concept of 'duty' and 'honor' tick. These damn fools have NO idea of human sacrifice that strives for a cause whether they concur with a concept or not.
Pop was a Marine in 1917 at Belleuo Wood in the Arde'ne, as a Sergeant. Dad, uncles Jesse and Wayne, landed at Normandy and Jeauno. Uncle Linwood was a medical Corpsman with McAurthur In Korea. Brother Jim was at Wei with the Rangers and me at Bin Huo with the 101st. If my career was short then Pop would have smiled because he knew what it was to give it all. Dad would have took it in stride, because after 5 years in the European Theater, he knew the fortunes of War. My brother would be sad but vengeful because he would know what him and I did was little more than a show of force and a waste with no decided victory. Mom would be the crushed loser, and I, no matter where I wound up would love her loyalty forever.
The driving force behind all the madness is honor which if I had violated, would NEVER be condoned by any of the above. Not letting the guys I was with and the USA down was the motivation, and provided the voice of the inner man. William Carney was a man who realized the scope of what I just related and acted on the field of battle accordingly. I remove my hat to him and others like him no matter what color, for holding honor and duty in such high esteem and splendid tradition.
Conscripted by the draft, I was thrust into the role of soldier, and 'doer' not a 'talker'. This place in time is reserved for politicians and men who think they can talk themselves to honor. Sorry, Not the case.
In order to be recognized, one must stand for something, even if there comes a time a personal sacrifice must be made, there's no substitute for action on the part of right.
These talkers, and criminal elements in this Country will be vanquished as have all other enemies, by men who acted such as William Carney.

People seem to be confused as to what "respecting" the flag and "disrespecting" the flag is, especially when it refers to freedom.

Being compelled into behavior is not "respecting" something, nor is it freedom. It is tyranny. Being compelled into speech is not "respecting" something, nor is it freedom. It is tyranny.

"Disrespecting" the flag would be burning it, spitting on it, destroying it. Not standing for an anthem, not participating in a pledge is NOT disrespecting. It is exercising the freedom the flag represents. While you may not like it, freedom also includes being able to do said distasteful acts, while I would not, I understand why it is protected and why the Supreme Court ruled as such.

And until I stop seeing the American flag on everything for sale, cups, underwear, towels, tissues, napkins etc you're pearl clutching about the flag is for show only, fake outrage.
